About Sage Creek Campground
Sage Creek Campground is a free, primitive, and scenic campground near Badlands National Park. It operates on a first-come, first-served basis for tents and RVs, with no water or electric hookups. The site offers a unique experience with stunning views, especially of the incredible night sky. Wildlife is abundant, with Bison roaming freely through the campground and grazing on the hills, alongside prairie dogs, coyotes, and various birds. Visitors are reminded to always keep a safe distance from the animals. The campground has two clean vault toilets with toilet paper, but no potable water. The closest town for supplies is Wall. It serves as a beautiful and peaceful basecamp for exploring the park, with lots of nearby trails. It is not a luxury experience and can get busy, with some noise from generators at night, but it remains a very nice and amazing spot to stay.

I was there in December for two nights. Even though I was the only person there staff still serviced the toilets and trash. This is a great spot.

Great free campsite in the park. Saw lots of wildlife: prairie dogs, coyotes, bison, badgers, pronghorn, rattlesnakes, and black-billed magpies.

Very windy. Not every spot had a covered table. The covers did not block the wind. We got some excellent night time photography and it felt safe. Plenty of vault toilets. The coyotes made wonder background noise and didn't bother campers.
