Do yourself a favor and DO NOT eat here. Went on a Saturday night and they honestly wasn’t busy with actual customers. Had a group of about 15 who was clearly family dining there as well. You must be family to get decent service apparently. We went through four servers…. Every request was accompanied with an eye roll or snarky response. Not by a teen either, grown 60 year old women who own the place. I even had to get up and refill the waters for our table myself. Took forever to get our food. We arrived at 6:50 and left after 9:30. Shoutout to the teen boy that finally gave a decent service and food brought out to us. Food is overpriced and steaks were grisly. Food was bad but service was worse. I even had to get up and refill waters for our table.

Upon first entering, you are encountered with two chairs with signs on the seat that read “for display only”. In my opinion, having a display only sign on a seat ruins the display value of the seat. The place for being so immensely large few people were there. If this place were even at half capacity, the very limited staff may suffer from stroke. From what I’ve seen there is only one waiter waiting on all four tables. It felt as if I was existing in the location of a Ghostbusters outtake. The three working fans were somehow at drastically different speeds. Not to mention the fact the light bulbs are one what mismatched. The fireplace, practically begging for a large fire was merely supplied with a small flame. From a dark corner bar, constantly emerged that if some jazzy music. After a while the music stopped and we had to sit in uncomfortable silence. For the six of us, there were only 3 quite used menus. The people who own the place had to deface their own menus in pen with new prices for some of the items. 4 dollars for a Coke, even in this economy is ridicules. Ordering food was quite the ordeal. The person who waited on us may of had hearing issues. She almost mistook a rum and coke for a “lemon coke”. The bathroom is reminiscent of a subway station mixed with what I’d imagine would be some sort of strange disco. The facet is atrocious. I’m not a salad person, but a bite of the stuff with their signature garlic dressing is delicious. One of my acquaintances got a “death stare” for asking and having held onto the garlic dressing after the salad. I had heard they had bread but was very disappointed when I heard they didn’t. A place like this should certainly have bread. After an hour our entrees arrived. One good thing with the service was the very kindly gave me my requested fries after learning they had gave me the baked potato by mistake. The others who ate with me had steaks, burger, or chicken stripes. The chicken was fine, the burger (from the kids meal) was surprisingly huge. I got the barbecue ribs and they were immaculate. The meat fell right off the bone and the sauce was so good. If you like garlic get the fries and keep the garlic dressing. It makes a great dip. Overall while I did poke fun a little it is good place for the food. Atmosphere is still iffy.

The food is decent but the service is notoriously slow and unfriendly. The sign on the cash register says they accept credit cards but that’s not the case. They will however take a check?!?

The best Ribeye I've ever had in a restaurant! Full bar. Great people!

Poor service, overcooked steaks, we even had a reservation and it took forever to get our food. There was 2 other tables in the entire restaurant. I don’t understand how they are able to stay in business.

This place was terrible! My husband and I went to Yankton and thought we would get some supper. We are not familiar with the restaurants in Yankton so we just stopped because hey sounds like The Black Steer would be a good place to have supper. Couldn’t have been more wrong! Walk in not many people sat down looked at the menu very pricey ordered Char broil hamburgers and fries well we finally got our food took forever! The hamburger was terrible no taste so dry and the fries were waffle fries not French fries. So I had just a little of my hamburger I couldn’t eat it complained the two ladies were very rude told me I ordered it well done that was the problem no that’s not the problem no taste grainy dry, Asked for a box so I could feed it to my dog at least. Didn’t get a I’m sorry or anything!

Way too expensive for what your get imo. But steak options are limited in the area. Expect at least 100$ bill for two. 4$ cokes with no refills is insane. Service was great though and steak was tasty.

Back in 1963 we rented a place in Yankton. The memories of eating at the Black Steer on special occasions are very heart warming. Happy to see you are still the primo place in Yankton.

The steaks are not charcoal grilled and do not taste good. A very sub par steak. Service was slow and did not give second drinks, only fills up the water without asking. The place is locked in the 60's and is very sad looking. Do not bring reward credit cards, will not accept.

Excellent food, steak was so tender and cut like butter. The Wisconsin cheese curds omg were very tasty along with the breaded mushrooms. Be prepared to pay a pretty penny. Over 100.00 for 2 ppl and the service was pretty slow.Kid-friendliness: Did have a kids menu

The nostalgic feel of this place, will remind you of the time in the 60s. Food is excellent. Served fresh and with love. This is not a fast food restaurant. They take time to make your meal and prepare it to your liking. Loved the white garlic sauce, that goes with your salad or your potatoes. Highly recommended place. You just need a little patience on busy days
