“My wife and I just moved to N. Georgia from another state. We were so used to our old bank after 20+ years, and they treated us well enough. Although we didn't know anyone's name at our local branch, and they didn't know ours, we were satisfied with their service, but now they were 2K miles away. So needless to say, we needed to find a more local bank.
After unsuccessfully trying to make contact with a human being at several other Chattanooga area banks, I noticed RockPoint had very high ratings. I read their mission statement and thought they seemed more like a business-oriented bank. I was afraid we would be dismissed or treated as an inconvenience as we are not business owners (yet!), but after reading their reviews, I thought we'd give them a try.
I was shocked when I called, and after 2 rings, a person answered the phone! I was actually caught off guard and kind of stumbled on my words. I was expecting the same old automated loop system. Nope. A live person.
I asked my questions, got my answers, and decided to make the 40-minute drive to Chattanooga the next day to open an account.
The next morning, I remembered another question regarding direct deposit. I called RockPoint right at 0900, and again, on the second ring, a person answered! Brandy did not immediately know the answer to my question, so she took my number and said she'd get right back to me. She called back in less than five minutes with my answer.
The wife and I made the drive. We found the address easy enough. The office is lovely and does not feel like a bank at all.
We were immediately welcomed by Camille, who is one of the bank's founders. She introduced us to Susan, who sat down with us to open our account. Susan was great, explaining every aspect of the bank, their philosophies and goals, and answering any questions we had.
Being in transition between your old bank and a new one can be a pain. We had a large cashier's check from closing a savings account at the old bank, which we wanted to deposit into our new checking account, so we can slowly transition over and eventually close our old account. Normally, a bank will place a hold on these checks for a couple of business days. As we were in the middle of moving, Susan waived that for us and even printed out a few temporary bank checks so we could access our funds until we receive our checks and debit cards in the mail.
After talking with her for some time (we never felt rushed) and asking every question we could think of, we got our account set up, and we were on our way.
RockPoint Bank is big on online banking, which I love. While I have not actually set that up yet, I have no doubts that if I have trouble, I can call, and someone will answer the phone.
