Sales Experience was Great! No Wheeling and Dealing with the Salesman and The Sales Manager. Financing was easy and quick! Salesman was attentive and helpful! The vehicle we bought, not so good! 2020 VW ATLAS CROSS SPORT. From the start, the remote start usually dosent work, it’s because the check engine light is on and the car sees an error in that system. Discovered that on my own. The check engine light has been on once, was sent to their service shop they told us to go to. Reset the check engine system and also while there they discovered the rear spare tire well was about an inch deep in water. Noticed a musty smell in the car but though it was where it had just been sitting and not driven while for sale. I removed the spare tire this weekend and completely dried and cleaned the well and then went thru the car wash and as I expected, the well was full of water again. Do still have a leak somewhere. Then today, March 30, the vehicle has just shut off, meaning stalled, engine off, stopped moving while turning into two parking spots. Restart the engine and seems ok. But it did apparently cause the check engine light to come back on. And store the error in the cars monitor system ERROR START / STOP. Again causing the remote start to never work. Not very satisfied with a vehicle that I am having to pay $556.00 per month on and haven’t had the vehicle but 14 days. Haven’t made the first payment on it. CARMAX CHATTANOOGA. Will update my review as soon as I see how they handle this.

I set up an appointment to see a car. Schedule an appointment to have my car appraised. Set it all up and walked in to be greeted by the desk associate. They take me to their chair start my paperwork and the take a personal call and put me, the in person customer, on hold and starts talking about a trade. I get up and walk to the next salesperson and did not do business with the first associate. Second was much better. The truck was selected and we moved forward. A few days later I picked up the truck. Signed paperwork and had a few questions. The sales team surrounded me and asked things like “Didn’t we talk about this , we discussed this” simply because I had questions when being asked to read and sign a financial contract. I reluctantly signed and was given the keys. Upon return into the store to bring the old key in, the manager told the business office to hold my paperwork and for me to sit down for a double check. After this pointless double check I was released only to hear that the business office needed more information from me. So Mr manager “double check” power trip didn’t use that time to double check anything besides making me wait , as evidenced by my paperwork call a few days later. Know this. This was my 5th and last purchase from your company simply because of that manager telling me to sit down for a double check after I have signed paperwork. If my records with your company don’t show at this point that I’m a guaranteed customer then please do better. I have praised your company for years. This past week was piss poor at best. I also have completely concerning vehicle issues that I noticed day 1. Once you have confirmed that this purchase is complete I will need to bring it in for a repair

While I ultimately ended up purchasing from another dealership, it was because I decided I wanted certified pre-owned, not b/c Carmax was bad. I had a very pleasant experience working with Sheena!
There was another guy that was really off-putting though. I walked in with stock #s knowing what I wanted to test drive, and he gave me the third degree on why I wanted those so he could make recommendations. I obviously did not need assistance and had been thorough with my own research. I went to Carmax to avoid that smarmy sales crap!

Seriously I can't say anything about the vehicles because I didn't purchase one only because they low balled my trade over $1000 lower than blue book. I walked out the door. I did although buy one from one of their competitors that gave me $3000 over book value for my trade.

I have always had great service at CarMax Chattanooga. This past experience not so great. The communication was not good. The salesperson once the car actually got there was great. Once we got in the car it showed it was months past service. We asked it get this addressed. The service dept said they could not do it until middle of the next month. So they sent me to a 3rd party shop. They reset the service counter and told me it would be fine from there. Again I have always had a good experience at CarMax. But this time was frustrating

Transferred a SUV in from another Car Max. I ask for a copy of the Inspection and I was told "they do not do one, that it would have been done at the other Car Max location." Needless to say, I have have multiple issues within 1 yr.....dry rotting tires, Oxygen sensor replaced, AWD codes, replace multiple filters, and battery. Totally disgusted and will NOT buy another car from Car Max. Had to take it to the garage before the initial warranty was out.

Here's my experience at this Car Max, came in looking to buy a 2021 SRT Dodge Durango. I'm a 18 year old Black Male so i was immediately profiled as soon as i came in. Even though the car was only roughly $65,000 i was approved on the car, showed everything required to get the vechile, after asked to provide more then needed. Then having to log into my Chase Bank on THEIR computer to prove my bank statements weren't fake i guess? Mind you this is the 7TH car ive bought from car max this year. But thanks i definitely wont be coming back

We tried shopping at CarMax in Chattanooga 10/18/2024 and there was maybe one other customer inside. We were told if we see anything we wanted to drive to snap pictures and bring it in. After about 30 minutes of looking we found four vehicles we were interested in. While on the lot we only saw one other customer looking at vehicles. Including us, that was maybe three customers. It is more than fair to say they were slow. I went back in with the pictures so a salesperson could get the keys. I went through a process where they entered a bunch of information for me and my wife, scanned both of our drivers licenses, and gave email addresses and so on. I'm all I stood there for about 15 minutes while the sales person entered the data and ran around the dealership. After the 15 minutes he relocated to the front counter leaving me at his desk with my wife outside waiting. I went to the counter and another person was entering the data from licenses again. I asked for them back and told them I had to leave. There was no apology for taking so long or anything. I don't know if they were doing a background check or what. When I left, I called CarMax back and asked to speak with the manager so they would know about the problems. I was informed that the manager was out today but I was transferred to the sales manager, Erika . After I told her what had happened, she told me that they were very busy today and only had three salespeople. I told her I only saw two other customers there while we were there and I saw five CarMax employees at different desk. She sounded condescending in her tone and never offered anything near an apology. I guess they don't need our business. We went straight to Marshall Mize Ford and received great customer service. During the same amount of time I wasted waiting on CarMax just to process our drivers licenses and enter our information, we test drive three vehicles at Marshall Mize. In short, we wasted about an hour at CarMax and never test drove a vehicle and spent about 20 at Marshall Mize and drove 3. Very poor customer service today. Maybe the manager needs to be at work more. I don't know what went on today but I'm very disappointed in CarMax.

2 years ago I purchased a car from this dealership and had a great experience. I am not sure what changes have been implemented company wide since then, but they have been changes for the worst. I initially stopped by wanting to trade my vehicle in for a different one - due to sizing needs and drivetrain preference. My trade in offer was 2k less than what I put down on my vehicle. I understand vehicle depreciation and how that is really out of everyone's hands, but being a second time long term customer with a $32,000.00 purchase, I was disappointed with the offer. In order to accumulate the best trade in value - I ended up selling my vehicle to Carvana for $2,500 more than what Carmax was offering. Then I proceeded to purchase the new car from Carmax. Within 4 days of having my new car, my check engine light came on. I drove it straight to auto-zone and had a diagnostic ran - where 5 things were mechanically wrong with the engine. They sold me a lemon. A $30,000 lemon. I called Carmax immediately and they told me the earliest they could get me in to the shop was November 4th. Keep in mind I purchased the vehicle on September 30th. I told the rep that wouldn't work for me and ended up returning the vehicle. When I returned the vehicle I was told everyone would be getting their money back within three business days. Well, today is the third business day and I dont have my money back, and neither does the bank I financed the car through - which means I can't even apply for a new auto loan and I have no car. I called Carmax to get an update and they said they are just now submitting notes to their higher ups that actually issue refunds - and the hold up was they needed my loan details. They never contacted me requesting the information - I contacted them to figure out where my refund was and it was discovered more info was needed. Once this was discovered, I explained my frustration and was told they could cut the check in the store and I could pick it up. How they would like me to do that with no car - I am not sure. Why that wasn't offered when I was there returning the car - I am not sure. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I am so frustrated I can't do anything about this situation except wait for them to figure their stuff out with no means of transportation. The ONLY good experience with Carmax this time around was with our sales associate Brandon. He was very knowledgeable and professional throughout the entire interaction. I do not recommend going through this Carmax for your next vehicle purchase.

Found a car at a differnt location, had it shipped to Chattanooga and the problems started. First they offered $5600 for my trade when another dealership bought it for $8100! Then when do all of the documents they wanted me to sign into my banking on a public computer! I refused and they acted as if I just robbed them. Took my car went to Echopark and they gave me $8100 for trade, financed an identical car that was also $1500 lower used the same financing company and had absolutely no problem with me emailing over my paycheck stub, didn't even ask for my bank statements. WIll not sale or buy another car from here.

After my Mother passed, I had to take care of all of her affairs on my own. One thing in particular was her car. I decided to take the car to Carmax for an appraisal. They offered me what I thought was a fair price, so I agreed to sell them the car. The business office asked for my driver’s license and I was asked to wait in the lobby while the paper work is being prepared. After my paper work was finished I sign the documents and I was presented with a check. My Mother had just passed a couple of weeks prior, so I was not in a condition to look over my documents or even the check to make sure everything was as it should be. I was also very tired from making 18 hour round trips to and from my state of residence to my Mother’s state of residence. It’s not until I get back to my state of residence that I realized the check Carmax gave me is in my Mother’s name, not mine. I also noticed Carmax’s business office personnel misspelled my name on one of the documents, there were two letters missing from my middle name. How does that happen when they had my driver’s license while preparing the documents? I called Carmax and informed them that I would not be able to cash the check they gave me, because it’s in my Mother’s name. They assured me I would be able to cash it, just take it to my bank and show them the Carmax paper work. Well I went to my bank and they said no way. I informed Carmax of the situation and they had no answers for me and said they could not issue me a check in my name. This is not true, because as the sole survivor I can sell the car using an Affidavit of Inheritance, which was explained to me by the County Clerk Office of that state. So over a week goes by of me calling Carmax following up with them to see if they are going to write me a check in my name. It’s starting to feel like I gave my Mother’s car away for free, because all they keep saying is they can’t write a check in my name. One day I called Carmax and I got someone on the phone that felt bad about the situation and they told me to call Carmax’s Customer Relations phone number. I didn’t think it would help, but I called the number and spoke with a Customer Relations representative. She was very understanding and disappointed in what I had been going through. She asked me to email here the documents I signed with Carmax, specially the Affidavit of Inheritance. I told her I would send her the documents, but I also told her they misspelled my name. At that point she was completely floored by the unprofessionalism and told me she would be looking into this and getting back to me soon. An hour later the business office at Carmax calls me and tells me they will be issuing me another check in my name. They asked me if I wanted the check mailed, I told them I would be in town soon and I would pick it up in person. I made the 9 hour drive back to my Mother’s home state and when I got to Carmax I went to the business office to pick up the check. No one said sorry for the mistake or for the inconvenience they caused. They handed me the check and ask me to sign another Affidavit of Inheritance, this time my name was spelled correctly. A few days later the same Customer Relations representative called me to follow up and see how things went. I told her thank you several times during that phone call, but I also told her I would never do business with Carmax again.

Good and easy process. Sales people are not extremely knowledgeable on the different cars, so do your homework before purchasing. One key pictured means vehicle only has one key. Don't expect Carmax to supply a second key, ours extra key is $900.00.
