In my opinion, this is the best art museum in Tennessee. Not only are their exhibits top notch, but their location in central Chattanooga as well as their view of the Tennessee River valley make it one of the coolest places you can visit in Chattanooga. They often host special events that are family friendly, and their staff is incredibly knowledgeable. If you come to town and never make it to the Hunter, you are really missing out!

This is an art museum, so if you like art, highly recommend it.I am not an art enthusiast, but I really enjoyed checking it out. Although, sometimes I wonder about some of the art pieces, I often think that... could I do better or I can do that! But, it must be about perception... oh well, in either case, I highly recommend it.

Did not make it into the museum. Was taking a picture of the sculpture out front and carefully placed our Kermit mascot on the step below. I had to briefly place my foot in the mulch. Before I could even step back, a security gorilla came out and scolded me and told me to STAY on the pathway! I understand not damaging the artwork and agree that we should be respectful of it. But this was an over reaction.

Loved this museum! We ducked in here to escape a thunderstorm one afternoon and it was the best choice. Very broad collection of American art, from the colonies to modern-day. Gorgeous river views, too! Definitely recommend.

EXQUISITE... the entire experience is beautiful...! The setting along the river, the welcoming walk to the front door... the warm greeting upon entering, and the very well appointed and meticulously maintained buildings... house the perfect venue to showcase a timeless collection of amazing Art, and rotating collections from featured Artists! ? An absolutely amazing afternoon fully immersed in though, contemplation, amazement... and an overwhelming feeling of being surrounded by raw talent... God given Gifts... the sheer beauty of each Artist's interpretation of their own perspective and view of their creation!

Fantastic variety of art. Good details with each piece. This is an amazing art museum. After nodding off at some of the world's greatest art museums, I found this one fun and the staff welcoming. My teenagers even enjoyed it. Free self serve coat check and lockers. No need to lug stuff around with you. Close to the tourism center. Nice walk to the museum if you park in the tourist zone. Ok for small kids. The Hunter has some good pieces to introduce young students or artists to the subject.

This museum is such a wonderful surprise! The pieces in the permanent collection are fascinating, beautiful, and curated beautifully. There are is an interesting mix of styles and mediums. Aside from that, the mansion and the views of Chattanooga are spectacular. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful with information about the museum and the surrounding area. The visit made for an interesting day and a lasting impression.

I took my sister to Hunter Museum of Art, in Chattanooga, yesterday for her birthday. She is an artist, and I appreciate art. It was fabulous. This museum of art is well worth your time and money. I loved the architecture in the original mansion. The views from there are also fantastic. The whole experience was amazing. It also inspired us to come home and paint ourselves later that evening. So if you are looking for inspiration, you must go!

This art museum was packed with phenomenal pieces that I never knew existed and pieces that I had seen before and was really stoked to see in person. My favorite photographer, Angelo Adams had a small feature in that museum as well. There’s two floors to this museum and the top floor is an exhibit that changes in the bottom floor I believe is an exhibit that stays the same all year around. The museum is on the edge of a huge Cliffs of the views are stunning. We ended up staying here for about 2 1/2 hours and we probably would’ve stayed longer if we had eaten before hand. My little brother is homeschooled and this would definitely be an activity that I would highly suggest for kids that need a little bit more creativity in their life.

We enjoyed 2.5 hours there today. The staff was very helpful & informative. A nice variety of artwork for a smaller museum.

Very friendly staff and a variety of mediums and periods make this an enjoyable place to visit. It's in a great location close to downtown. If I lived closer I'd get a membership so I could visit more.

This was a really nice museum to visit. I got a great photo of it from the river boat tour I love the way it looks sitting atop the Rocky cliff with all the foliage. It's also really fun how the new modern building just flows into the old mansion. They had some amazing art work inside and were also preparing to host a beautiful wedding we visited. Great views from their lobby.

We went one day to just ask for pricing and what to expect. Then we decided to give it a try. They had a "history of fantasy illustration" with dragons from games and movies theme as a special for limited time. Everyone were excited about it but when I saw it, I thought it was just ok. Nothing that worth that much time or the money. But, the rest of the museum, in my opinion always, was really interesting! The glass exhibit was memorable and something local since they work with glass a lot there. All the people that work there were extremely friendly! We loved it.So overall, it is $20 and if you are in town I would suggest you to go. If you have kids, I would say that I have been to better ones for themes that would trigger their imagination and would wow them, but it was far from bad experience too.The pictures are from the view out of the museum at night.

This small museum surprised me at its quite nice collection including Hopper, Bento, and Bellows. The curation is well thought out. The structure itself is an architectural delight. Beautiful setting
