I spoke with Patrick to nail down a color choice. He gave me a call, and made some helpful recommendations once he knew what I was after. We landed on a Rootbeer Metallic. I checked in once to make sure things were going okay and he assured me they were. After about 14 weeks the guitar showed up and it looks pretty flawless. I am quite pleased and looking forward to using it for gigs! If you’re not in a rush, and want the utmost quality in your new finish or artistic vision for your guitar, I think you should go to Patrick.

Working with Pat Sims at Sims Custom Shop was an incredible experience; I cannot recommend the quality of his work enough. We proceeded to chat about the project I wanted done—a solid alder Jag-Stang body refinished in that alluring Ivy Bronze. Pat was enthusiastic about my project, and reviewed photos with me via text. He even shared the backstory of how he found and mixed the shade of paint I had picked (it was an automobile paint color in the 1970’s).After asking about my customer service experience on his website and asking for feedback, Pat gave me an overview of the process. From disassembly options (you can do it yourself or pay for the service if your guitar is particularly valuable/irreplaceable) and shipping to estimated deadlines and quality control, Pat made sure I was well-informed of how the project would be managed. This gave me the confidence to be certain that Pat was the right person for my important project.Payment was easy and processed quickly under a recognizable business name. Pat’s pricing is competitive and fair for the level of attention and talent he delivers. Of all the quotes I received, Pat’s was the most affordable and the fastest. His record keeping (work orders and receipts) are promptly delivered and professionally formatted. Pat is in touch by email and text before, during, and after the project and easy to get a hold of if you need him.Be prepared to wait. Pat quoted me an estimated completion window of 10-12 weeks. I ultimately ended up waiting 18. I was pretty persistent in checking in once the deadline passed, and Pat addressed my emails so I could have a clearer sense of time.Far and away most important though, the refinish job on my Jag-Stang looks absolutely amazing. The results speak for themselves. Pat Sims’s custom finishes are professional grade and showroom quality. He’s the real deal when it comes to elite-level work at accessible pricing.Sims Custom Shop gets a perfect score in my book! 10/10.

Absolutely beautiful paint work by a very knowledgeable dude. Brought new life back into my Jim Root Tele. If I ever need a guitar painted again, I know who I'll have do it.

Fantastic experience with Pat. He is a one man operation and did such a killer paint job on my guitar within a very reasonable time frame. Not only that but I was able to visit his shop to drop my guitar off and with him he helped me find the exact color I was looking for and placed the order for the paint on the spot. Masterful work on the refinish.

So glad I found Sims Custom Shop. Pat went above and beyond with my P bass. The result as better than I had envisioned. It was a lefty Fender painted all black, but now a beautiful 2-tone burst with the satin and ceramic coating. I'm already in the works for sending another bass soon. Pat is very professional and passionate about his work, for he rules the custom guitar paint community. Spread the word.

Pat does amazing work. My second body a tele in a satin gray blue looks better than I could ever imaging. We have a few more bodies that I look forward to getting painted. Pat has kept me informed of the status and as a business concerned about what he delivers. My wife cannot wait to get her 7/8 Strat body painted.

Pat did a great job with my Jackson Xstroyer. High quality work, smooth as silk finish. Went above and beyond and did extra work on the back and neck. Very happy with the end result, it's my new favorite guitar.

Patrick did an unbelievable job turning my 2010s Jackson PC-1 into a neon green tiger shred machine! The finish is so smooth and liquid it looks as good or better than factory painted guitars. He was also a true pleasure to deal with, offering regular text updates and jumping on the phone to discuss changes or options along the way. Along the way he gave me insight into the process and materials used so I actually understand way more about guitar finishes than I did. Word of caution as this was my first time painting a guitar is that the process takes a while, and I changed design substantially in the middle so my fault it extended the time it took. Tell yourself it will be done when Patrick says it’s done and just know it will be worth the wait and I’m thrilled with the finished product.
