Updated 2-26-2024 9:21 pmI finally got in chat with a human at Belk Credit, what I was told was a surprise. So Belk issues a temporary credit number while you are in the store at that moment. The clerk was supposed to have told me, she did not. This number is good while you are there at that moment to encourage impulse buying. Then 3 to 4 days later they kill that number and issue a real number. So by doing that they set off 6 alerts on my report. I doubt most have their accounts set to give alerts for everything, but I do. Since I do I was alerted to what Belk was doing and tipped off, which set off a series of events. Belk should really tell everyone that is a temp number. I am still returning the suit because I do not trust a business that does this.I can't believe how much my life has been turned upside down these last two weeks just because I went to Belks. The story you are about to read is true.On 2-9-2024 my wife and I went to Belk's to buy me a men's suit. At checkout the Associate #009985 encouraged me to sign up for a Belk's card for an additional 20% off. I did with the intent of paying it off and closing it.When I got home, I went online to create the account, I was given the account information. But alas, the number did not exist. I waited 1, than 2, than 3 days. The account did not exist. I had my bank run a check on the account number and the number did not exist. I had no recourse but to wait.A couple of days later I got an email from Belk, after Belk did a second hard pull of my credit they issued a new card (Score 775). They sent an apology explaining they had to cancel the first account and create another. No reason given. But that set off a series of very stressful events. I started getting alerts from the 3 credit bureaus, daily several. I called Chase and asked for advice, they started a fraud investigation, and reissued my card. But since they knew I paid all my bills through my Chase account, they transferred the items I pay monthly to my new account that day.But that left me with the original Belk mess. I still do not have a Belk card or the ability to access the account to pay off the balance, interest is growing.I have tried to figure this out, did the associate steal my account number or identity? Did she mess up the account bad enough that it had to be redone? Did she add items to my account and instead of me seeing it and suing Belk they canceled the account and made a new one? I don't know. All I know is that since 2-9-2024 I have been living in stress. I have kept a close eye on all my reports and several investigations are ongoing.I will never go to Belk's again, except to return the suit. I am returning it Monday, there is nothing wrong with it, I just don't want to deal with Belk's at all. However since it was bought with a non-existent account and than transferred to another account will I be able to be refunded? When I Googled this I noticed it has happened to others before. So it is not unique to me.My biggest concern is why did Belk withhold from me what happened? Why did Belk not explain what happened? And why am I still dealing with this mess they created?

This used to be my go to shop center, however the quality of service & the products are less to be as desired. Having been a shopper with them since before my first grandchild over 20yrs ago.

Very helpful employees. The perfume counter seems a bit cluttered.

The selection is really poor. They didn't have the Lancome free gift and didn't work to do anything but to upsell something else. The Clinique counter was unstaffed, and it took way longer than it should have to get the attention of a floor worker. Belk is becoming the Kmart of the 80s.

One stop shop for a suite! Just the way Men like it! Dorthy was amazing when she helped me pick out my suite and tie. She made my suite buying day very easy. I recommend this place!??

They always have some type of Great sale going on. I was able to find my daughter's some shirts for a reasonable price but had they not been on sale they would have been crazy expensive.

Most of the merchandise doesn't have price tags or shelf tags so you don't know how much things cost. Hard to shop w no prices. The associates suggested we bring the items in question to the cashier. Too much of a hassle. Will shop elsewhere
