JUST DON'T - find a different dealership. I purchased a used Toyota SUV. There was an issue with brakes immediately. CarMax fixed them at no charge. A week or two later, I discovered the moon roof "leaked" (read: downpour inside your vehicle). Since I had a "30-day, no-questions-asked" return policy, and I had an uneasiness about the vehicle, I returned the vehicle on the 30th day. Not as easy as they make it sound. After many conversations with different level managers; they finally called the "top" supervisor/manager. This guy convinced me that it was a great car and I should keep it. He, literally, told me "I, personally, have your back on this one". He forgot to mention that "[he] had my back" until "Day 31" of the return policy. They completely screwed me over - all while smiling, shaking hands, and declaring "[We] have your back; we won't let you down". Always trust your gut feeling.

Great experience from start to finish! I had a vehicle transferred from South Carolina to Knoxville, TN and the whole process, including the re-inspection of the vehicle, was very efficient. I am especially impressed with the service department after the way they dealt with a problem I discovered about two weeks after my purchase. Their solution was prompt, at no cost to me, and structured to minimize the disruption to me. A great place to buy a used car!

The experience was stress free and the associates, Elam and Caden were upfront about the pricing and how the CarMax process works. Dawn in the business office was a pleasure to work with and we also had a lot in common. The entire car buying process only took about 1.5 hours from test drive to leaving with the car. And my stepdaughter really loves her car!!

We weren't hassled by sales people. We were pointed in the direction of the cars we wanted to see and they are all unlocked so we could shop in peace! So easy and not stressful at all

I bought a car online and they sent a car to get me so I could pick it up. I brought it home and the next day the engine was running on H. I was told to bring it back and they gave me a loner. The engine was bad and I came back and got a different car. They were very nice and eager to help with everything. Bill Driscoll was my sales guy and he was awesome.

We have been so pleased with carmax. The customer service, employees, structure, etc. From walking in the door for our appointment to test drive a vehicle to driving off the lot with a new car. Such a perfect experience. You can trust that if an issue arises they will take care of you. Everyone there is so approachable and nice. You don't feel intimidated by anyone. That is so important. There is no typical dealership mentality here. And I love the fact that there is a set price, take it or leave it! We will be back again and again. Thank you for your whole business structure.

A friend bought a truck here, which was one of many vehicles she bought here, but we weren't satisfied with it and took it back about 5 day's later although CarMax you have 30 day's to return a vehicle! The process of returning the truck was extremely simple and easy and they didn't need a reason why, although we had issues with the transmission and the condition of the truck, they took it off the for sale list and it went immediately to the garage!!! Thanks CarMax for the excellent customer service and care we were given!!! As we told them then we will definitely use CarMax for our next vehicle purchase!!!! Excellent customer service all the way around!!!!

I highly advise never shopping the Knoxville carmax!! They make the process of buying cars that don’t operate properly extremely easy!! We bought a vehicle from the in January of 2022 (with bald tires might I add) We took it back in February for a jerk in the shifting. They then had the vehicle 90 days. Returned it saying it worked now. That happened 4 times in the first year we owned it. In 2023 they had the vehicle a few times then we decided to use our own mechanic,even though we pay for Maxcare, which is the biggest scam ever. They cover nothing but a new transmission and they’ll fight that tooth and nail and leave you without a vehicle for months and then say it’s “fixed”.Anyways, after our mechanic looked at it and said yes this car is screwed up we finally got Carmax to send it to their transmission shop. Long story short in October of 2023 it went to Budget Transmission in Knoxville. They replaced the transmission and returned the vehicle to us. That same day we returned it 2 times for leaking fluid and smoking.They have now had my vehicle SEVEN times and 2 transmissions later!! We have fought them on rental cars and loaners and everything in between. No one cares about the customer and getting the service team to call you back is a nightmare.I have been trying to work with them on buying the vehicle back because they know they sold me a vehicle that wasn’t working properly while it was on the lot. They now want to “appraise” my vehicle for what it’s worth and not help buy the car back like they originally said they’d work toward!!! They want to give me HALF of what I owe knowing that they have had my vehicle in their shop (or a shop THEY sent it to) for months on end. I’ve made 8-10 payments on the car while it’s been in their shop. Not only am I out thousands of dollars on car payments when I didn’t have the vehicle, I’m out hundreds on rental cars and other repairs that “max care” doesn’t cover.There are a few people who try to help at the Knoxville store but you can tell no one genuinely cares. They have told me many times “ I don’t have to do this for you” when I ask for a loaner while they have my vehicle “ fixing” it.This has been a 2 year process and we just want Carmax to do the right thing and quit jerking us around and low balling us on offers that they know are no help to us.

This location lies about their inspections, as is evidenced by the vehicle they sold my family member having sludge in the engine (after being subject to their 'inspection). On top of their dishonesty, they have drug out the return of my family member's down payment and her financing institution's check so as to draw interest and stick the consumer with the cost of their mistake. I would avoid this location at all costs.

Tony made it an easy experience. It’s hard to car shop without constantly being on the defense and Tony went above and beyond to be transparent about the process and was communicative throughout. My trade in experience was a bit frustrating…I didn’t feel like that team held up to their word due to how long it took for the delivery of the vehicle. If they would have honored what they originally offered then it would have been a 5 star experience. Overall decent experience. Better than dealing with other dealerships.

This was by far the easiest vehicle buying experience we have ever had. Cade walked us through the process and we never felt pressured or hurried. We were looking for a 2023 Ford Maverick and had two to choose from…so, it’s always nice to have a choice! Thank you Car Max!

I left the dealership after paying 30k for my vehicle with 2 dry rot, tires. One showing low air on the dashboard and one almost dead battery in the key fob,(the car screen showing it was low) and one low battery in the other one. Both issues were promised to be addressed while I was finishing the paperwork and were not. One tire cracked less than 2 weeks of ownership and had to be replaced. At that point, because I lost all trust, I replaced all 4 tires. HOW did they pass your 17 point tire inspection??? I am happy with my choice of vehicle . I will never purchase through CarMax again. No Customer service.
