Great place for all things involving African and African-American culture. An extensive selection of books - historical, spiritual sciences, sociological, psychological, healthy lifestyle, cookbooks, afrocentric thought, analysis of how white power structures maintains the current power relationship with Africans worldwide, gender, children of all ages (fiction and non-fiction?, graphic novels, self-help.You can get all kinds of art, drums, masks, African clothes, t-shirts and sweatshirts embracing black Americana and African identity. A great selection of jewelry. You can get books and materials for Kwanzaa.A large selection of body oils from which to choose to smell right for any occasion. How about some healthy drinks and sea moss.Soaps and toothpastes without the infamous unhealthy ingredients. How about shea butter and other oils and lotions.Definitely a great selection of incense. The proprietor is 2nd generation carrying his father's legacy. He is very knowledgeable about everything in the store. I always need help in chosing novels for my teenage daughters and my teenage niece. Jordan knows about various authors and has read many of the books. So he can give good guidance. My only complaint is I spend tooo much money and at least 2 hours in good intellectual conversation with young and old folks.I have bought a book from the author in the store on 2 occassions. This is nothing other than a gold mine.My strong advice to you is to GET THERE, and get there FAST .Btw,I don't live in Nashville. But I've been to or through there a bunch in the last 3 years. I always go to Alkebulan and Kingdom Cafe, just a walk down the street to get that soul food. Can't wait to catch the monday jam session at a club. Jefferson Ave is a black business incubator that is coming to life led by the conscious raising bookstore -ALKEBULAN!✊?✊?✊?

Everyone should be checking out this bookstore. There is a wealth of culture here. While the focus is on the Black experience, there are other books beyond just that along with locally sourced items you would find in a general store like soap, lotion, jewelry, t-shirts, etc.

I love this place so much... The black knowledge that lies within this story makes my heart smile I have bought so many books from here and still going. When I first moved to Nashville from GA. I had to find my ppl and our spaces like we have back home. So when I found this place it definitely felt like I found my home away from home for me.
