Nice people willing to help with issues

As a lifetime customer of Radio Shack, the store in Smyrna was out of business, so I drove around Nashville and I was in awkward position when stepping in store, looks like a bazaar like one in Istanbul. I was lucky to find a PCB Etchant for my hobby. That guy there was very nice person. I thanked him for the best! If you are a musician using guitar electric or not. He has wide variety and tons of stuff there.

I had never set foot in this store before today, and now I definitely won't set foot in there ever again. My tube amp has been making a crackling/popping sound for a short while now that became much worse quickly. I called today, on a Saturday to see if this was something that the store might be able to diagnose. The friendly person over the phone explained to me that the store's amp techs are not in on the weekends, but if I wanted to go ahead and bring it in, he could test the tubes for me, and if that was the issue then he would have the parts to replace them. So I made my way over there and when I entered the store there was a guy sitting behind the counter whose voice matched the person over the phone. There were no other customers in the store. I reminded the guy about our phone conversation that had taken place not even one hour earlier and he never said "oh yeah, I remember." He just said, "that could have been me." He looks at the amp and asks if I had popped out the tubes. I said no, but that if he had a screwdriver, I could quickly open it up and could take out the tubes. He started to seem flustered and said, "well, it's just me here." I said, "I can see that, but this being my first tube amp, I didn't know that you wanted me to have all of the tubes already out." (Again, I offered to pop off the back and take them out. It would have taken me five minutes tops, if that.) He then said, "well, I guess I could open up the back and take them out. Our techs who are out on the weekends but in during the week could have this opened up and looked at in no time," and then he seemed really put out with me. I said "never mind, I'll come back Monday." Not sure why I said that, because I won't. To which he just said, "okay" and nothing else and went about his business of sitting behind the counter being the "only one there" with no customers but me in the store. I have money to spend and am always buying gear. But I spent an hour driving there and back from Mount Juliet just to have this guy who wasn't doing anything when I walked in, seem like I was a real problem for him. This employee completely lost any future business of mine. Terrible, terrible, terrible experience.

I called ahead and then drove over an hour to see if he could check out an issue I had with at old Marshall head. I no sooner walked in he said "nope, not even going to look at it". Thanks for the memories son. It worked out for the better though because I ended up at British Audio in Nashville and had 5 star service.

If you're looking for equipment to fix your old radio you're out of luck, but this place is a very cool Amp repair shop and recording studio. Guy up front is cool and knows his stuff. Don't have 18 gauge wire there though.

Purchased replacement guitar strings, and a glass slide, and the one attendant there was very attentive, and he fostered a return customer experience.

OMG! This place is a joke. I don't know who's writing these reviews, but there is NO WAY these clowns should own a business. Their inventory is junk. They are so out of their league that it's almost entertaining. (Almost). As soon as I walked in, I thought I was in some dirty homeless persons hole in the woods. The guitars are better quality at the Goodwill store. Do yourself a favor and keep on driving by this shameless sham of a business. You'll thank me. Good Luck!

I took a vintage amp to Superior Music for a tune up and to fix a minor problem with one of the inputs. Terry, the so-called and self-proclaimed "Amp Doctor," could not solve the problem with the faulty input and I had to return the amp a few times. Eventually he modified my vintage amp by adding an additional resistor and told me, "All amps have that resistor and it's missing from the schematic." Huh? Really? WTF? I knew immediately that was nonsense and that Terry is one of those electronics cowboys who knows just enough to be dangerous. A quick Google search turned up no information about a "missing" resistor nor did adding the resistor solve the problem as I knew it wouldn't. When I questioned his technique of adding additional parts to vintage equipment he immediately became defensive, contentious, hostile and antagonistic. He actually crawled into a fetal position when I attempted to discuss the issue intelligently in the hope that we could work together to solve the problem. He wanted nothing to do with that. Apparently his ego is too fragile to admit that he may not know all of the answers or can't find the correct solution. The owner Chuck, who appears to know even less about electronics, immediately came to Terry's defense and also became difficult and argumentative. I tried to work with them by showing them the schematic in the hope that we could remedy the problem with the amp. I just wanted the amp to work correctly but without adding parts that the amp didn't come with and that didn't belong. They weren't too keen on someone pointing out that their technique is a band-aid and not a solution nor did their band-aid change the problem in any way, let alone solve it. They did not want to solve the problem and told me that they would no longer work on my equipment. I had brought in another amp and they told me to take my amps and that they would not work on them while indicating that I was no longer welcome at Superior Music. When it became evident that I knew their techniques, abilities and knowledge of amps and electronics was questionable and sketchy at best, they told me to take my toys and get out of their sandbox. That's truly how it felt. Business must be good when you can afford to turn away customers. It was my intention to bring all of my amps to Superior Music for tuneups but that's not going to happen now. That would have meant several hundred dollars of business. Fortunately this is Nashville and there are several folks that truly know about amplifier repair. Superior Music is not one on them. Do not take your equipment there for repair. The place isn't all bad. Alex at the counter is cool and they have some Radio Shack parts that are hard to get since Radio Shack is mostly out of business but I highly advise not to take any amplifiers or other electronic equipment to these folks for repair. I'm sure Terry knows how to swap tubes and clean connectors but I would not trust him for any problems that are out of the ordinary and actually require a knowledge of electronics.

This is a great little shop with some cool used gear and a fairly regularly rotating stock. I've scored some cool old pieces here. There is also old radio shack style stock here too for all you DIY folks and Hi-Fi needs. Picks, capos, strings, friendly staff. I drop by whenever I have free time and also follow their Reverb store to see whats new.
