“New Year's Eve 2025. After a few fun, but cold, days and nights in our 2008 Sprinter camper in the GSM, we were headed to Asheville for the evenings celebrations but the van wasn't cooperating. As we were leaving, it started with malfunctioning power steering but I figured that was due to the very cold temps and things would be fine after warmup. But after a few miles the dash lit up like a Christmas tree before going totally dark just before Newport on I40. We had no electric and were in safe mode by the time we got off the highway. I (not a mechanic) decided the battery wasn't charging because of a dead alternator which caused the voltage drop. But I also figured we wouldn't find any service at noon on NYE. I was wrong! Looked up service centers in Newport and found Commercial Truck Center. Gave them a call, explained the situation, and they said to head over if it was still drivable. So off we went at a brisk 25 mph. (Sorry to all those folks stuck behind us along Cosby and Broadway.) Anyway, we got there. They diagnosed the problem right away and began working on the fix. Because the next day was a holiday we got to spend some time in Newport, but they finished the job midday on January 2 and we were on our way. I also had the basic diesel services done while there because it was just about time for that. Anyway, shoutout to our very skilled mechanic Alan, and all the folks at CTC. They were very professional, friendly and accommodating considering it was a long holiday weekend. And best of all, the cost was about half of what I was anticipating. So, if you're ever in need of quality service and are in the Newport area, give the folks at Commercial Truck Center a call. You won't regret it.”
