I have been taking my toy poodle Willow to the Banfield vet in Smyrna for several years. This location is closest to where I live in Antioch. Vets Dr. Costilla and Dr. De Martin at this Banfield have significantly contributed to the decline in my dog Willow's health.Below are key events demonstrating substandard care from these vets:ISSUES WITH DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF CUSHING’S DISEASE- Willow diagnosed with Cushing's disease in 2021 after bloodwork showed elevated liver enzymes, but Banfield did not recommend treatment despite ultrasound showing disease- Over next year, Willow experienced periodic 1-2 minute episodes where she would stumble, tilt her head, then recover. Banfield vets labeled these as "nausea" but did not relate to Cushing's diagnosis- Following months of taking Willow to the Smyrna location, Franklin’s Banfield vet said episodes sounded like strokes and to see a neurologist if happened again. When next episode occurred, Smyrna Banfield vet made no mention of strokes.- Next episode was severe - couldn't walk for 4 days, permanent limp. Neurologist put her on blood thinners, stopping episodes- evident Smyrna Banfield vets failed to recognize condition and adjust treatmentFAILURE TO COMMUNICATE KEY DIAGNOSTICS RESULTS- July 5th records show Banfield vet recognized Willow had suffered "another" stroke but did not inform me, refer to neurologist, or express urgency- Willow rapidly losing weight over 18 months but vets insisted weight loss was because not enough calories, not because of conditions. Said would refer to specialist if kept losing weight- Weight declining but vets insisted she was gaining weight, despite clear documentation of 7 lb weight loss over 18 months- Dr. De Martin became impatient when I questioned the inaccurate weight gain claim and refused to refer me to an internal medicine specialist.- the next day I made an appointment and took Willow to Franklin’s Banfield where vet expressed alarm at weight loss and immediate need for internal medicine workup. Willow was 5.8 pounds- Specialty vet found inflammatory bowel disease, gallbladder disease, heart murmur that Banfield records showed existed earlier but owner was never informed and Willow was never treated for the murmur. Murmur documented and went from 2/6 to 5/6.INTERACTIONS WITH BANFIELD DIRECTOR- Director admitted numerous missed signs by staff and doctors, said they would reeducate Smyrna location staff- Declined to provide corporate contact info when asked-Never offered any type of restitution, no real accountability-This call was recordedSUMMARY- I have spent thousands on Wellness Plan, but neglect by Smyrna staff resulted in weight/quality of life loss, avoidable health declines- Care disparities: Franklin location more patient, thorough, better quality of doctors; Smyrna rushed, impatient, lack of knowledge, socioeconomic differences in care quality.- Concerns that Smyrna Banfield provides lower quality care compared to Franklin’s location in more affluent area Smyrna services primarily Smyrna and South Nashville/Antioch residents.

The Indian vet needs to check his attitude at the door or leave it at the house. But he may be so upset at his incompetent staff. Only go if you absolutely must.

My first visit was was great but this last visit I will give it zero stars if I could. Only because the fact that you guys did not pick up the phone I called four times and you could’ve easily letted me know that you guys were short staffed but when I got there, the girl was on the phone? So because you’re short staffed, you guys just don’t pick up the phone anymore. Let’s just be considerate.

Bansfield Pet Hospital at Smyrna has been awesome! The staff are very courteous, helpful and kind. My pets receive quality care from their vet teams and I am usually pleased with my experiences with them.

My dog was sick so I called bạn field slightly after they opened for the morning. I was told the hospital had to check in the other animals that had been dropped off before they opened first before they would be able to help me & they would call me after the others had been checked on. I was never given a phone call & when I called back around 2 in the afternoon they didn't answer the phone. WHY WAS I NOT TOLD AT THE BEGINNING THAT THEY JUST WASN'T ABLE TO HELP ME TODAY? If I had been told that then I would've simply taken my dog to a different vet so she could've been checked on earlier in the day. Instead she's been here with me & not feeling well all day. I DO NOT RECOMMEND this place! My fault... I was told she would give me a call later if they had an appointment to become available.

I had a great experience with Banfield Pet Hospital. My dog was sick so I called in for an appointment and I was put on a waiting list. I was contacted several hours later to bring her in. The staff was great. They listened to all my concerns and gave me a treatment plan that was reasonable in price. Now my dog is all better!!

So hard to get someone on the phone or get an appointment. The people at the front desk aren't great with people skills, so it makes me wonder are they ok with the animals. My dog had an ear infection and they still wanted me to drop my dog off around 8am and stay all day. Wouldn't that just be like a 20 minute vet visit? I need quality care, not just to be another number or dollar.

I would never recommend this vet! First off the lady who answers the phone has a rude tone to her. The vet never looked at my puppy and they even refused to test my puppy for parvo stating that she could have parvo or constipation! Well ma'am, can't your office test for that? We don't have the staff for that and we didn't charge you is what I was told! This clinic does not care about you. I used to take my dog to the Banfield at 100 oaks mall and they would have never turned down my dog for receiving a checkup! This is a ridiculous place and you should go somewhere else if you want your pet to receive good quality care! I see on the reviews that fluids can be offered at this location! So why my pup wasn't treated?

I took my dog for an annual visit at the pet smart Smyrna location. Dr. Isabelle De Martin saw my pet. I’ve been trying to get his med for almost two weeks now. I found all his meds cheaper at 1800petmeds.First, I was told after several attempts to fax the information the fax was down, and the vet had to call. The vet was told the fax was now working and he should fax the request. In addition to all this, Dr. DeMartin denied the prescription request and stated I requested a generic brand, and generic brands were not part of her treatment plan.Meanwhile, my pet is without medication for an ear infection she stated he had due to her greed for money. This doctor, in my opinion, is unethical and needs to be removed from practice. The vets at 1800petmeds reissued the prescription with the brand name. Let’s see what doctor w.w.w will come up with now…

I felt like the lady at the hospital was rude, but she helped me some. My Veterinarian office recommended I get my dog's nails trimmed at Banfield, but Banfield sent me over to the Spa. My Veterinarian said not to go to the Spa next door to Banfield. Banfield said they only clip dog's nails for regular patients at their hospital. I'm like wth!

We had been taking our dog there for a few months. When our dog broke her leg, they said they were too busy to see her. For the next few months we got different doctors telling us different things at every visit. Lots more happened but very poor experience over all. Maybe the only positive is that it’s convenient if you need other supplies from Petsmart, but otherwise, I’d look for another vet.
