This place is 100% a scam. Took our doodle to them on Sunday Charged us 700 for xray said he had stomach inflammation. The dog was still throwing up Sunday night called them back and said for 384 more dollars they would do blood work. If u think a lot of your animals I would stay far far away from this place. So now here it is Monday and the poor dog is still throwing up. Having to take him to another vet. They need to shut this place down.

Called, knocked, called again someone finally answered said they would someone out then after 15 minutes of my dog vomiting blood, I decided to go else where. Seriously wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Parking lot was empty.

I strongly advise you read the reviews. I didn’t and it not only cost me $1400 but it cost me the life of my dog.. i brought him in on an emergency due to bloody diarrhea and all they did was run test and tell me they didn’t know what was wrong with him, send me home with pills and watch my dog die in my arms. Please seriously consider going somewhere what will give your pet the treatment it needs.

Ok, I have read some of these comments , and they are ridiculous. 1st off, these ladies work in the middle of the night. Not letting people it is for thier safety. Makes sense to me. You never know what will come threw that door. Someone mad, grieving?? Seriously!!
2nd off. Do you work for free?
3rd Do you go to a human er and get told it's going to be so much, but then have something else come up and not get charged? I doubt it!
4th. Our fur babies mean as much as a real family member.
5th Some of you neglect your fur baby, then come there for a miracle.
6th. Don't wait for the last minute to get your fur baby taken care of.
7th. Tell the truth. Do you tell the WHOLE truth about when, where, and how long the animal has been in the condition?
8th, and finally.... DO YOU WORK FOR FREE??

One of the worst places to take your animal. They will take advantage of the fact you have no other option in an emergency situation! These places are out for the money and that’s it! They charged my daughter over $1,300 and they just done bloodwork.. her dog was fine but they robbed her because they knew she needed them ?

Is it crazy expensive? Yes. . 1100$ and i didn't even get to bring my baby home. However. It's an EMERGENCY after hours vet. And with it being the closest in the area , ill let it go.
They don't let you inside. Which doesn't help your anxiety. But I understand for many reasons!
However. The KINDNESS and compassion , and patience they showed while putting my puppy to sleep was UNMATCHED.
They have a nice private area to be with your fur baby. And a jar of hersheys kisses for a "last kiss"
Thank you to all the staff for taking care if Clover! Heaven forbid i need yall again, but If I do, I'd trust Noone but yall! Thanks so much !

If there were any other 24-hour vet in the area, I would give them one star. But because they're the absolute only option for after-hour emergencies, I have to at least give them credit for that. With that being said, if there were anywhere else I could take my dog, I would never go to Five Rivers. They won't let you come inside the building at all. We waited on the porch in the rain and in our car while we heard dogs whimpering and crying from inside, having no idea if the crying animals were our own or something else. Not allowing owners to see where their animals are being treated is just shady.
My dog got in a little scrap with a neighbor dog, and had a little nick on his ribcage. They charged us $600 just to shave the area, put a staple in that will have to be manually removed, and gave him antibiotics and sedatives. The lady we talked to was extremely peppy, couldn't read the room at all, and sent us home with such unclear aftercare instructions that we'll have to take him to another vet to check over their work and pay even more money.
They gave us two quotes when we arrived. One was for $1800, full of unnecessary tests and procedures that was obvious overkill. Even they knew it was overkill because the second quote they had prepared was still overkill, but affordable, at least. They charged us $50 for the muzzle they used on him and threw away, and another $50 for the cone they sent him home in. When they gave us instructions on how to take care of him, they never mentioned he'd be in a cone, that he'd gotten a single staple, or any information regarding the actual wound care at all. They only gave us instructions on the medications they gave him. When they brought him out in a cone I asked questions about how long to leave it on, and what to do about the staple since it won't come out on its own, like dissolving stitches, etc. They acted as if I was wasting their time by making them take two minutes to tell me how to care for the actual wound and not just how to medicate him.
Overall, these people don't care about the animals they're taking care of. They overcharge because they know they're the only place in the area that's open all night, and people have no choice if they want their animals to be taken care of after hours. If you can find anywhere else at all, avoid this place even if it means driving a little further. I'll never bring my animal there again!

Awful vet would never recommend this place!! $1000 to tell me that my dog may or may not be ok the vet didn’t know how to do an ultrasound but sure did charge me for other tests that were not relevant and tell me the one thing we needed a ultrasound they couldn’t do to go to another vet. The puppy that I needed them to look at they told me he didn’t look good but to feed him vitamins and formula and to call back if I needed anything I call back and they tell me to go to another hospital the vets not in till 6pm. So know I get to pay another vet for a job they didn’t do. NEVER USE THIS VET. THEY ARE AWFUL!!

Do not go to this vet even if it is an absolute emergency I would go anywhere else. All they are worried about is $140 or more to even see an animal even if it does not belong to you and you've already greatly expressed that. Where I live one of the previous tenants left their dog behind and I did not know it from where I was out of town. Long story made short that previous tenant did not take very good care of this dog so we had food out for it at our house and it was a safe space for that dog to go to. I just got back not even 3 hours ago from Middle Tennessee to find the dog Torn to Pieces. With literal holes in its head. I can see a small piece of the beginning of his brain from the wounds that he has received, and explained this all to the vet and all she could tell me was that unless I have $140, AGAIN, NOT MY DOG MI D YOU. , then and ONLY then would this dog be seen and I'm worried about him being borderline septic. Had no issues telling me that they can't let me sign anything to evem bind myself to pay for this dog BUT by golly if I wanted a vet to look at him to see if he should be put down then they were all for it. OH WAIT!!! I still needed $140 for that too!!!! This place is a joke, with no regard for any animals life for anything less than 140 cash up front. I've lived in strawberry plains over 22 years and NEVER would I have thought to go through this..

Since they have moved and have curbside only I feel like it is hard to give a 4 or 5 star review. We brought our pet for a visit after a fall. We were treated nicely by the staff, but it was extremely cold outside and had to wait in the car while he was treated. I needed to use the restroom myself and was told I could not use the restroom because I could cause someone to get sick. Plus I didn't want to leave our pet for a long drive to use the restroom (there are no nearby businesses open). I am a nurse in a hospital and understand the importance of not spreading germs but maybe require a mask to use the restroom or have a large waiting area for family, and I will change my rating to a 5 star (we didn't even get to be with our cat when we had to have her euthanized). I have worked in a hospital for over 30 years and know how important it is to try to take care of the family and well as the patient. I hope you will consider allowing families to be involved in the examination and care of their pet.

When I came to post a review I was shocked reading some of the reviews for the hospital. Unrealistic expectations from pet owners and digital media is hurtful to the staff and their reputation. This is an emergency hospital and they are friendly but also have less staff than Knoxville emergency hospitals with 1 vet on shift. I’ve waited in the human ER for over 4 hours before waiting my turn for an urgent situation but not life threatening. Be kind and be grateful we have one as there are not many animal emergency options nearby besides Knoxville. I’m sure they are trying to care for everyone in a timely manner, but when so many show up at the same time, there is a wait. One lady I talked to when I was there came from as far as the Greeneville area for care. Five Rivers services a larger area than one would think. If you want to go to a bigger facility go to Knoxville, but you will have to wait also…maybe not as long if there are many waiting for care. They provide estimates for emergency care and are upfront about exam fees and curbside service. I am grateful we have Five Rivers. Thank you for all you do!

I highly recommend going here if you enjoy throwing your money away. I saw the sign posted that they’re “curbside only” and I wasn’t comfortable with that, but I wanted my pet seen quickly so I chose to stay. You don’t even get to speak with the veterinarian at all! We are 1 week out from my pet’s “diagnosis” and I just felt like everything wasn’t adding up so I went for a 2nd opinion. Thank goodness I did, because everything I was told wasn’t even correct! The vet I saw today said the report is extremely contradicting and didn’t make a lot of sense. The recommended follow up care was completely inaccurate for the “diagnosis” they gave IF that had actually been what was wrong! I definitely won’t be back. I should have went with my gut when I first got there! Hopefully they put my $500 wasted to good use.
