Traveling through the area and decided to stop for snack and bathroom break. 2 employees outside taking a smoke break which must be usual custom as I've read other reviews. Knowing that the bathrooms might require a key I asked if the bathrooms were available. The response from both women was, one said yes and one said no. I stopped turned around and inquired what? Why? And the hostile employee yelled that it's out of order! So I wouldn't get into a verbal altercation with these women. I told my child let's leave. This is poor representation for a tourist area.

This is the third time I have come to the store and it's close 15 or 20 minutes early. Do they not stay open until 10 anymore? The website says 10. It should be Open I can see every now and again, Or if there is an emergency but not every time you come to the store, it closes early.She looked right at me. The clerk did and wouldn't let me in and me 15 minutes left. I just needed a pack of post it notes and she wouldn't let me in. And another couple pulled up and wanted just a jar of Mayonnaise, and she wouldn't open the door either.They really need to get Dependable employees

I just left the Dollar General in Townsend and the workers were telling ppl they closed in 2 mins and it was 9:48pm which would mean they close at 9:50pm. The sign on the front door says they close at 10:00pm. I know that's only 10mins but 10mins is 10mins and if you think a place closes at a certain time because it says so on the front door and even says it here on google which a lot of ppl go by. On top of them saying they close 10mins before they really do as I was walking out. A woman and her little girl who was only about 6 or 7 years old were trying to go in the store just to use the restroom and a employee stopped them at the door and told them they were closed and it was 9:51pm at that time and all the little girl needed was to use the bathroom. Everything in Townsend closes down by 9 and the dollar store is supposed to be open until10 even if it said they closed at 9:50pm on the door they should've let the little girl use the restroom that's just sorry in my opinion. It's already sorry enough to tell ppl they closed and turn them away 10 mins before they're supposed to, but it's really sorry to not let a child use the restroom especially a little girl.

I have recently had 2 experiences with this store, neither have been good. The employees there posted a rude remark about all of the jeeps in town during a March event. To my understanding the event was aimed at getting visitors to spread their spending to other shop owners as well as getting them introduced to shops that may not be well known. Most shop owners were nice and welcoming but the DG was right the opposite they complained about increased business " making them work" I kinda thought thats why they were getting paid. But wait theres more. I was there when another jeep event was taking place and a local shop owner sent an employee there to get a ream of paper. Upon arrival all 3 employees were outside smoking and the one who just had to break from her break and went to assist said customer. After the rude comment of telling her that she would have to find her product somewhere else. I over heard her comment to her fellow employees as she returned to her smoke break that they had what she was asking for but didn't feel like getting it and that girl looked too prissy anyway. Worst DG ever mainly due to poor management and employees. Will not be back which probably makes them happy. They won't have to do anything.

On vacation went to get marshmallows for the camp fire at this store. Got there at 1040 pm and they were closed! I called and this girl stated they were closed that she locked doors at 10 til. I said well its 15 til right now. She said well I've worked 50 hours and I want to go home and hung up!!!!

With the recent return of the exceptionally hateful and bitter manager this store has went right back down to rock bottom. I had gotten used to the new staffing and began shopping here again, then I walk in and see Cathy the manager. I gave her a shot tho, bad idea. No service, store is a wreck, parking lot stays trashed ,and heaven forbid you pay with cash. The corporate office should be ashamed.

Always friendly service and they offer a variety of household, personal items, etc. they also offer a variety of selections on food (cold, frozen, canned, boxed, bagged) at a fraction of the cost. This is my go-to place. If you want to skip the chaos offered at Walmart, I highly recommend this Dollar General where you’ll receive friendly service with a great shopping experience.

This is my go-to place. If you want to skip the chaos offered at Walmart, I highly recommend this Dollar General where you’ll receive friendly service with a great shopping experience.

This DG is one of the worst I have been in. The main register is cash only and the employees are offended if you ask to use it. They expect you to use a card and check yourself out. They don’t care how many are in line and have rude handwritten signs all over the store. The employees are more concerned with taking smoke breaks than actually working.

Be a really good place to put a dollar general,I bought 15$ worth of stuff and had to listen to the manager talking to the clerk about buying diapers and her husband being in prison for 10 min before they took my money and got home with items missing..instead of dealing with that again I went to rockybranch and re bought the items they didn't put in my bag cause they were too distracted by their conversation that should have taken place private, the manager is the one that is holding that location back ,need to be lots of changes at the Townsend dollar general...I recommend going to Rocky branch dollar general if in townsend

Really enjoyed this place. Not the most well stocked, but employees were working hard to refill the shelves. Was able to get propane here too! Prices were 100x better than the IGA.

Perhaps Cathy should look into different employment. Cathy was extremely rude. Talking about how she had worked 104 hours last week. Her DM is out of town this week, but when he gets back she's going to "have a conversation with him" because she "didn't sign up to work 104 hours a week." She was extremely rude. I purchased a product that turned out to not work for my needs. I attempted to return it 5 minutes after I purchased it. Cathy refused to process a return because the item had been opened. After I found the return policy, I sent a friend in to try again. She was rude in that interaction as well. Even after being shown the return policy, she was adamant that she wasn't going to process the return. Finally, she said she would do the return"this time". If you can't do the return, you can't do the return. So, she could've all along. It's just that she was unhappy with her work situation and was wanting to be hard to deal with. I just feel like someone needs to be aware that Cathy was outside smoking and left a line at the counter ready to check out with cash (which couldn't be done via self check out) and complaining the entire time.
