So fun!! When we went during nice weather, there was an electric train outside that kids got to control as well. Very fun and informative.The gift shop is a great spot for souvenirs or gifts for any occasion. A nice variety of things.The history was so cool to read too. I need to go back to finish!

What a wonderfully designed and interesting museum. We had a great time and learned so much. The staff were knowledgeable and very helpful!! This is a must visit in Townsend!!

About Little River Railroad/Lumber Museum
The Little River Railroad and Lumber Company was founded in 1982 as a non-profit corporation. Our mission is to preserve the history of the Little River Railroad and the Little River Lumber Company. In 1901, W.B. Townsend and a group of investors chartered the Little River Lumber Company and the Little River Railroad. They purchased nearly 100,00 acres of timberland along the Little River and its tributaries. After it was founded, the Little River Railroad & Lumber Company grew to be one of the largest commercial logging operations in southern Appalachia. ownsend, named after the the founder and president of the Little River Railroad & Lumber Company, formed as a result of the new industrialization in the area.
