Very close to the entrance of the park, the room me and my girlfriend stayed in was updated up till the bathroom, shower was fine but you could tell it was old and could use a update and a little bit of work, mattress maybe have been a spring type but still slept fine.

States they are pet friendly but they discriminate against ADA service dogs depending on breed. I was turned away for having a large breed mobility dog.

Loved our stay here in a cottage. Very comfortable and clean, convenient location to the park and museums and staff were very helpful and kind.

This is a hidden gem. The outside looks like one of those rough(ish) hotels in the side of the highway, but it is anything but. Mike checked us in, gave us a good rundown of things around that we could do and recommended a great place for dinner. The room was spacious and had a relaxing rustic vibe. We sat outside of our room on the rocking chairs and enjoyed the weather. The location was fantastic, 12 minutes from Cades Cove. While there were still a decent amount of people, it was very quiet. I'd definitely stay here again!!

I'm so happy I decided to give them a try. The room was perfect for my needs. It was super clean! The staff was incredibly nice and I couldn't have had a better experience. I'll definitely stay here again the next time I'm in town.

Townsend really is the peaceful side of the Smokies. It is a stark contrast from Gatlinburg and especially Kitschville, I mean Pigeon Forge. The Gateway Inn is set back from a well traveled road but you are more likely to hear your neighbors in the next room than the vehicles on the road. You get plenty of space in the room and all the relevant amenities like a mini-fridge, microwave and places to set your stuff. A nice touch is the goodie bag they give you at check-in. I would definitely stay here again.

We have stayed at the Townsend Gateway Inn several times now. We love staying on “the peaceful side” of the Smokies and we love everything about this motel. The rooms are super clean with comfortable beds. It’s nice to have actual coffee mugs for our morning coffee and we love the rocking chairs right outside our room. The snack bag with a beautiful thank you card is such a nice gift. We stayed for three nights this past week for a very reasonable price. We will be back!
Nearby activities: We like the proximity to the park and our favorite place, Cades Cove.

Walkability: Close to hiking trails and restaurants.

After leaving Florida a day early for a business trip to Knoxville, we had stopped off in Townsend to find lodging for the evening. We had been on the road and awake for well over 24hrs and were extremely exhausted and was hoping to check in early. Keep in mind we just showed up without a reservation and were winging our day early trip knowing that it is leaf peeper season. The girl at the front desk immediately got on the phone to one of the owners and was able to pull it off for us! We were told to come back in a couple of hours and the room would be ready for us. We returned a half hour earlier then expected to and were greeted by one of the owners. The room was ready, the staff is so polite and the rooms are fantastic! Thanks for the exemplary service and room you provided for us at a moments notice!
