I recently visited this Ace Hardware store to purchase distilled water. Upon inquiring, an employee responded immediately with a ‘nope,’ which caught me off guard. When I expressed my surprise, the employee reaffirmed their response quite bluntly. This was my first encounter with this particular staff member. Following this exchange, I decided not to continue with my other planned purchases and left the store. I’ve noticed a recurring issue here; the staff often seems to be monitoring me, giving the impression that they suspect me of shoplifting. This has made my shopping experiences uncomfortable, despite the store’s convenient location near my home.

Still the place! They always seem to have the nuts and bolts you need. Especially the hard to find ones. A little out of the way, but well worth the drive!

I like this store and have bought there since it opened. Staff has always been friendly and helpful.Yesterday I picked up several items and used a discount coupon that was mailed to me. One item was a LED light bulb. I wasn’t positive whether I needed daylight or soft white to match another one I have. The employee on the register told me that if I needed the other one, just return the bulb with receipt and get the one I needed. Once I got home I discovered that I had purchased the wrong bulb. I went back today and figured to just trade the bulb and be done like the employee told me I could do. I was told that I would have to pay $1.24 additional since they were not the same price. I explained that I had used a coupon and that was why the price was different and that I just needed to get the other bulb like I was told I could do. At this point I suppose I was deemed a problem customer and a lady from an office was summoned to take care of the problem. Again, I explained the situation and she told me that there was no way they could do that because the computer wouldn’t allow it. Ok, now I admit that I used a little terminology expressing my opinion about the computer running the store. She offered to pay it herself and I told her that I did not want or expect her to pay. I left $1.24 on the counter and got my bulb and left.I totally understand that computers track inventory. Ok, got that point. Here is what I think should have happened……. Refund the discounted price on the returned bulb, and adjust the price on the new bulb to make it even. Exchange is made. Inventory is correct. Customer is happy. Everybody is taken care of instead of losing a regular customer over $1.24 and getting a bad review. It shouldn’t have to be this way.
