This is one of my FAVORITE places in Abilene!!! We’ve gone there SO many times and there’s always something cool that we didn’t notice before!!! Folks there are very friendly too. Of course the best thing that most people talk about is the end— when you’re sitting in a room and see a “movie” ( that’s the best way I can describe it but it’s not like a movie you’re watching in a movie theater!), and a gunfight breaks out. I would WARN you though— if you can’t handle things that are pretty loud or if you’re with someone who gets a little scared of loud things or being in the dark, I would make SURE you wanna experience this part of the attraction… someone who’s pretty “elderly” or young children, they may not be able to stay there for the entire thing— because it’s LOUD and it has to be dark so you can see the “production”… but while I loved there it was absolute one of my very favorite places! I’d recommend it and when I’m in town again, I will DEFINITELY visit it again!

I love the little areas where characters from history speak to you as if they were still here. It looks like animatronics meets holographic. This museum tries to tell both sides of the frontier story.

Wow! This is a destination. I was not expecting the quality and extent of exhibits. Unique holographic presentations and a 360° theater production. Jere was a very knowledgeable host. Day 30 of our current trip and this is definitely one of the highlights.

Cool completely different from any museum we have been at. Plenty of sitting and not too much walking around. The main part is indoors out of the Texas heat! Staff is friendly and informative.

This was a very interesting tour. I was in town for training and didn't get to the museum till almost closing time. One of the employees signed me in and then took me to the theater area to make sure I seen it. It was very a cool experience.

This place was so much fun, extremely interactive so it kept the kids attention and we learned so much! We got some really cool souvenirs to take home and we talked about and referenced the museum our whole trip. Highly recommend bringing the whole family!

Really cute little museum. Some of the exhibits weren't working when we went, but everything we did see was great! There weren't as many artifacts on display as there is information, but it's still really interesting, and I recommend a visit.

I visited Frontier Texas! expecting a nuanced, inclusive narrative about the region’s past. Instead, I walked away deeply disappointed—not because of what’s presented, but because of what’s completely erased.
There is zero mention (and I mean zero) of Spaniards, Tejanos, or Mexican Americans in a museum about the Texas frontier. That’s not a small oversight. That’s historical malpractice. The Spanish colonial period, presidios, missions, vaqueros, and broader Mexican contributions are foundational to Texas history. Their complete omission isn’t just inaccurate, it’s whitewashing.
Frontier Texas! is beautifully staged, but it feels more like a myth-making project than a museum. The frontier didn’t begin with white settlers and it sure didn’t end with them. Until this museum is willing to confront the full story of Texas, including the people who were here before and alongside Anglo pioneers… it’s doing the public, and history itself, a disservice. Texas deserves better.
