You just have to stay there as a overnight guest to understand the 1 star rating. I'm sorry @SalvationArmy but this is a very honest rating

These people never awnser the phone , they are never available to talk to you when you need help. It says online if you Google who helps with hotels they are the first to pop up. This is a lie! They do not help with hotels,or any other place that has to have funding.

They call them salvation and they are the only shelter for the loss and the broken that just need some place safe and warm or cool to stay till the figure out the next move but yet they kick you out at 7am and then Lock the doors until 430pm and if you happen to walk in if the doors are open to use the restroom they tell you no and then call the cops and have you band for 90 days knowing you have nowhere to go and they charge these people 8 dollars a night yes that's reasonable to people who are working at the moment but not to the ones who are trying to get back on their feet ugh makes me so sad the way they treat others as if they are better or above them if you are going to call yourself salvation army then give them some kind of salvation!!!!! People have lost compassion!!!!

People DONATE items for the needy - the "Salvation" army SELLS (what they do not pay for) to the people that you thought might need a coat or a pair of shoes or maybe some toys for misfortunate children. It's disgusting, and their "mission" is a blatant LIE. You people make me ill. Grow a soul, better yet grow a spine.

I'm writing this review because of something that happened. We all know what the Salvation Army is about, and I wish no one ever had to go here. But sometimes bad things happen, and thank goodness the Salvation Army is there. They have helped so many people for so many years. I always give to the red kettle at Christmas. This year, they announced on tv that donations for their free Thanksgiving dinner were way down, and they desperately needed help. They needed 100 turkeys, and they had 4. So, after work, I grabbed 2 turkeys and headed there. As I pulled in the parking lot, there are always people outside smoking or just hanging out. I took my turkeys inside and got back in my truck. As I got in my truck, one of the people walked up to my window. My first thought was this guy is going to ask me for money. I rolled my window down and said hi. What he said really touched my heart. He said "I just wanted to thank you for what you just did. Everyone here is down on their luck and could really use a helping hand. Because of people like you, we're going to have a great Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you for caring". Talk about make my day. And thanks to the Salvation Army for being there. By the way, the people of Abilene really stepped up and the Thanksgiving dinner was a huge success. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped. And thank you Salvation Army!

Unfortunately, I've stayed at this Salvation Army more than a few times that I intended. The administration there acts as if they're trying to help you, but the reality of it they do not. There is a recovery program there, but in my opinion it's in place to receive grants to keep the place afloat. The participants are required, more so, forced to work across the street at the Salvation Army Thrift Store six days a week. If you refuse for ANY reason then you are kicked out the program. I've witnessed on numerous occasions the staff there being ugly mannered towards the homeless ppl or refusing them help of any kind. Too many chiefs & hardly any Indians... it's everyone trying to run a show when there's no show to run...a self-sufficient program runs itself when you have ppl in upper management delegating the proper authority. I could write a few chapters in regards to the negativity of this particular place, but the amount of characters doesn't allow me to do so. It would be better for you to get a better understanding of how this facility is ran & the daily activities going on within it if you would just randomly show up & ask the homeless ppl there a few basic questions. In my opinion, the only good quality of this place is they offer you a bunk or place on the floor to sleep out of the weather elements. Again, I'm just one person with opinions, so don't take just my word. Take a moment of your valuable time to go over there and ask questions. You will see what I am talking about. Don't look at the surface of things dealing with this place. One must look under the carpet to see the dirt.

Salvation army isn't everything it's supposed to be. How they treat most people is a disgrace. Most meals served to the public are cold and being a Christian based facility, they should practice what they preach. Amen ? Being homeless doesn't make me less human or important. ?

This place is a joke. Salvation army should be open for whoever and whenever they need it. The staff are mostly former homeless and for whatever reason come across as " better than you" and are rude. Was 108 earlier this year multiple times and the guests were made to eat outside in the heat, made to set outside in heat till they did intake and their were multiple older persons with medical conditions. You sleep on the floor and have no pillow, the staff explained the reason for this is " because it's too much work" . I had a job, worked everyday, and was told I can get a shower every Monday and Thursday at like 11am till noon. I work at 8am. So the whole first week I had no bath or shower. Are they trying to make us all look like the stereo type of homelessness. Never had coffee because one other program people kid uh
