“I brought in my cat, Barney, about 25 minutes before closing with a hurt paw and they were absolutely fantastic. I’m a first time cat mom and just super freaked out by any little difference in Barneys behaviour so when I came home from work to find her in pain I almost broke. I came to VCA Lakewood animal hospital and they were so kind the entire visit. Dr.Kirkpatrick reassured me that because he couldn’t feel anything wrong and because she wasn’t showing any signs of serious pain that it was most likely fine, and she was! The nurse whose name I forgot gave my sweet girl some good pets while I talked to the doctor and even when my cat nipped her a little gave no reaction and still let her know she was okay. The front desk people were quick to help and give me any info I needed, and they had a third party payment service that allowed me to cover the full cost of our visit. All in all, if I could give more than five stars, I would. Best vet hospital ever!”

“In short: Puggles has been here a few times now! I love them for their compassion and understanding. Not to mention they are all brilliant when it comes to animals. Explanation: Puggles has been a sick boy his whole life. I saved him from a puppy mill so there is no telling all the messed up genics he has. He started acting odd wobbly and had what I thought when I woke up was runs turned out to be brown vomit. I had no idea why it seem to come out of no where. The only thing I can think of is we have kids that walk by my fence daily and they feed him something. When I dropped him off he took a turn for the worst they called to let me know and this had nothing to do with staff. Turns out he had a horrible lung infection from in healing his vomit and when I came to get him.... I honestly didn't think my boy would make it thru the night. They gave me very specific and detailed instructions and gave him medication. I can't explain the fact that they seemed just as worried and concerned that he wouldn't make thru the night as i was but never mentioned it and still kept their calm unlike me a crying mess. That gave me confort. They were fighting for him and not giving up but knew it was really really bad.I followed the instructions to a T and he got better. I am a big quality over quantity of life type of person. And they gave him yet another chance of good healthy life. This is just the latest time they saved him they also saved his eye once. He loves the staff and bonus one of the girls that works there has two pugs so I learned a lot from her. I never take him anywhere eles. These really are the best people and i dont normally trust veterinary clinics but I trust Dr. Norris. Puggles getting a outside playpin with no bottom to potty in today from amazon so he is away from the fence from now on. When it comes to being a pug mom I am still learning. But we have the best team.”

“Our Saint Bernard went down and unable to walk. My daughter and I were unable to pick him up to move to the car. TE sent an employee to the house to help move him into the car and remove once at the vet. Unfortunately, after diagnosis we were unable to save him. The Dr was very understanding of my dogs contrition and sympathetic to the situation. “I went in due to my cat being extremely lethargic. After researching for hours, I came to the conclusion that my cat was dying. I took him in to euthanize him and stop the pain, but I still had doubts in the back of my mind. The Dr performed an X-ray, and I was sadly correct. They did not have to do that, nor did I even bring that up. They made me feel at ease with my decision to stop my cats suffering. They explained that he could have surgery, but it would be a lifelong battle, and that's if it was successful. RIP Salem, you left us way too early!”

“I struggled looking for a local exotics vet and decided to take my African Grey parrot to Dallas County Veterinary Hospital. The office staff were very friendly and organized. The vet tech was knowledgeable and friendly. Dr Shurtleff is very knowledeable and thorough in history taking and of avian medicine. He took the time to explain things thoroughly. They gave helpful educational handouts and customized instructions for the treatment plan. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful at drawing the lab work as my parrot was uncooperative! The bill was extremely reasonable. Plan on moving the care of my fur babies to this clinic. Very pleased.”
