March 2024 by Bobbie H
We recently traveled to Beaumont and dined for the first time at J. Wilson's on Saturday, 23 March 2024. The website really gave the impression that reservations were highly encouraged, so I set our reservations about 3 weeks ahead of our trip to Beaumont. My first impression of the outside of the restaurant was… slightly disappointed. The exterior is simply a metal building that is painted a gaudy green color. However, the interior is not at all what you might expect – in a very good way! The restaurant is very nice, warm, and quite inviting. It is definitely an example of not judging a place based on the appearance. We were wrapped up in activities when we realized the time and ran to J Wilson's for our reservation at 7:00. There wasn’t a line when we arrived and I will admit to being a bit put-off when we were told that there would be a 10-15 minute wait, despite having made reservations. I get it that things happen, but we altered what we were doing with a family visit to arrive on time to our agreed upon reservation time. I would have loved an additional 10-15 minutes with family, but I did not want to be late for the reservation. That said, both bartenders immediately began improving our experience – I wish we got their names. We were eventually seated in Ava’s section and she was such a delight! It really is due to Ava’s wonderful service that ensured we had a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. She was friendly, helpful, and seemed to be happy to be there. Truly a joy! Here's what we did not care for – cutting short personal plans to arrive on time for reservations and then having to wait once we arrived. The crab cake “Starter” was really a deep-fried breading cake with MAYBE a splashed flavor of crab. It is in no way, shape, or form a lump crab cake, as indicated on the menu. I truly don’t think we had a single lump of crab between either cake. (The Boudain Balls are on point, though!) We ordered steak, but only one side comes with the entrée… you are most likely going to purchase a second $6 side (on top of the $38 steak). They do offer salads that are described like they’d be very good, but the menu makes them seem like they are intended as a meal.If we find ourselves in Beaumont, we’ll definitely return… though it is unlikely that we’ll bother with reservations in the future.

You got to check this place out especially if you want to be considered someone with serious Riz. The best server hands down is Vanessa. This restaurant has all you could want from an American restaurant with better than average fine dining. Check it out you won't be disappointed. The boudin balls are

The waiter was great he tended to 8 of us women. Food is unbelievable, and the sauces with the appetizers were finominal. It was pricey but worth it. Yes, tell a friend, yes, go back!

It was okay. Food had great presentation but was nothing special taste wise. Service was slow, but our waiter appeared busy so i don’t blame him.

My husband and I went for lunch, he got a hamburger and I got a chicken salad sandwich. They were both absolutely fantastic. Chicken salad can be boring but this had pecans on it served on perfectly toasted artisan bread. My husband loved his burger and the fries were so good. Great waiter as well.

We found this place by chance a few weeks ago. We were in Beaumont and found this place on the Googles. We tried it, and HOLY COW, was it good. We went back a second time recently, and it was equally impressive. Anytime we are on that end of Beaumont and hungry, we'll be there. Go try it. Or don't. But we'll go back.

Great food! We stopped in for an early dinner just before 6 and I was glad me came early. The place just filled up. I noticed people where waiting for tables and I know why. The food was excellent. I have the fried fish fillet Cajun style with rice pilaf. The fish was soft and flaky with a gold crisp and crunchy batter. We where just passing through for the night but I would definitely go back. Highly recommend!
