We encountered an unpleasant situation a few months ago at Ike's Food Mart but because it was only one instance, we had decided not to yelp it. This evening, another very unpleasant situation occurred that we couldn't let slide. As soon as my fiance and I walked into Ike's Food Mart, we were smacked in the face with the most horrific, and I mean HORRIFIC, odor. We soon found out this odor permiated throughout the store. Having quickly grabbed our item, we walked up to the counter where my fiance began purchasing his items. The store clerk greeted him with a smile, and while looking him in the eye, tried to start small talk. I know my fiance well, and could tell by the greenish hue he was turning that he was trying not to throw up from the smell, and thus could not engage with the clerk. He quickly turned to me, handed me his wallet and ran out of the store. As I approached the counter, the clerk immediately stopped smiling and turned his head away sharply to the right so he was looking hard over his shoulder. I found this strange and looked to where he was looking, but there was no one there in the store. I finished paying and, still while looking away from me, he held my receipt. I say "held my receipt" because he made no effort to reach across the counter to meet me halfway. so I reached all the way over the counter and retrieved my receipt. The clerk then bagged my items and "held" them too. I reached all the way over the counter and grabbed my items and left as quickly as possible. The entire time I was at the counter, the clerk didn't speak to me, or look at me. It was a VERY uncomfortable feeling shopping at this market. I felt quite uncomfortable to be a paying customer and not even recognized. It's one thing if your store STINKS, but to have your store associate with customer service that STINKS then my business with your business is through. Once outside, I found my fiance around the side of the market vomiting. He explained to me the smell reminded him of the smell of feces after eating Indian food and that he noticed the bathroom door had been left open. By the way, the original unpleasant situation that occurred a few months ago was when there was an unmarked item we wanted to buy. When we asked the price, the two men behind the counter looked at each other, neither knowing, and made up a price out of thin air (which was very very high and unfair). When we pointed out that the price was unreasonable, they said "Well, that's how much it is right now". We will never walk into Ike's Food Mart again. There shouldn't be any fear of vomiting during a "convenient" shopping experience. No snack is worth that smell or rude customer service.!!!
