Russ Pitman Park is a great local nature park with peaceful trails through the forest. It is a very enjoyable place for a walk to see flowers, birds, bees, butterflies, lizards, and other wildlife. The park has everything for young kids, including a great toddler playground with a sandbox, right next to the parking lot for easy access. The area is pretty well shaded by many trees. There is a discovery center and a "critter classroom" with several enclosures for a closer look at animals like tortoises, rabbits, pigeons, and an opossum. The park has picnic areas, bathrooms, and parking on both ends. Their best event is the Pumpkin Patch Fall Festival in mid-October. It is a nice place for pictures, to relax, and for families to play.
This has been our favorite quiet place. My kids grew up here. From nature trails, exploring, playing and learning by the Nature Discovery Center, made their childhood a memorable experience that we will treasure forever.

Incredible!!! So much beauty and natural trails and birds and plants in such a small space. A very special and good person/people made and take care of this place. Their planned expansion looks so cool too!
