On out way to Big Bend, we went through Big Spring. A friend to us about Big John's and that we had to try it. We did and are glad we listened to him. If you aren't looking for it or know about it, you;ll never just happen across it. But locals and folks in the area are aware of it and it's a favorite. The gravel parking lot has plenty of pickups and usually a police car or two. The inside has quite the decor. Lots of interesting things on the walls and it's very "rustic". The folks are typical West Texas meaning friendly to a fault. We were told to pick whatever table we wanted. We'd heard the BBQ was good but they have unique burgers so I had to try one of those. Their burgers are fried (kind of like a chicken-fried steak only with hamburger) and I had a jalapeño version of one of those on jalapeño break (for an extra $1) with some onion rings. My wife decided to try the sliced brisket sandwich with some macaroni salad. (When was the last time you saw macaroni salad on a menu?!) The burger was very tasty even though I could feel my arteries clogging. The bread was very fresh, the meat was really reminiscent of eating a CFS and the fixins' were all fresh and tasty. I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't any perceptible flavor or heat from the jalapeños but it was very good. The onion rings were fair. They were real slices of onions and the batter was light as I like but they could have been in the fryer a little longer. My wife thought the brisket was a little dry though it appeared to have a good smoke ring on it. I think maybe she got some that on the lean side and could have used a little from the moister side of the brisket. The macaroni salad was excellent. Reminded me of they way my mother used to make it. After we'd stuffed ourselves, we found out that we got free dessert. It was a small cup of either banana pudding or chocolate cake. We had to (of course) try each and they were both quite tasty. While we were eating a couple of folks next to us struck up a conversation with us. (Remember, this is West Texas.) They live in Midland and said that Big John's is their favorite restaurant in the area because of the food and how nice the folks working there are. And even though it's a little bit of a hike from Midland, they don't mind and like to get out of Midland when they can. (And, if you've been to Midland, you'll understand that sentiment.) Anyway, we had a great time talking them and it made our lunch all the better. Not that we get to West Texas that often but, if and when we make it back through Big Spring, we'll try and time it so that we can have either lunch or dinner at Big John's.

Think they have 4-5 beers to choose from. Nice adult place to go. Don't really see a lot of kids coming to hang out at this place which is perfect. I was only in here 2 times so I might be wrong but I doubt it.

We ate here as we were driving from Santa Fe to Llano. It was worth the stop. The outside of the restaurant looks rundown but do not let that run you off. The food was really good. Good portions and flavorful bbq. Service was outstanding as well. I would highly recommend.

Don’t judge a book by its cover! The outside of this little place is rough, but the portions are plentiful, the food is affordable and delicious, and the service is friendly.

Very well worth going off the beaten path to Big Johns feed lot. Was not the first time there. It has been great every time I have been there. We had the chicken fried fingers, fries, home made biscuit/gravy, salad, AND small delicious blueberry cobbler. All you can eat, but didn't need to ask for more as it was all I could eat. Great service and everything Quality. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

We ordered two two-meat platters so got to sample the ribs, smoked pork, brisket and sausage; sides were beans, potato salad ( made with mashed potatoes) and cole slaw. The portions were generous. The ribs, pork and beef came basically unseasoned and dry and depended on the somewhat sweet sauce for flavor, but were pretty good when sauced. On the other hand, the sausage and sides were some of the best I’ve ever had. They also give you a free order of pudding that is pretty tasty!

Not much to look at from outside , but food is Great My wife and I each had a bowl of Chili and split a brisket sandwich. They were both great and owner and help could not do enough for us. Would stop again in area. Was great to meet Brenda.

When we drove up the building is not much to look at but very clean inside. The staff was so friendly, we definitely felt welcomed. And the food, oh my goodness, the food was delicious! We ate there Wednesday, all the ribs you can eat was the special. The ribs were cooked to perfection on my plate was 4 nice size ribs, toasted bread, coleslaw, potato salad and beans all for $13.00 I could not finish my dinner, I was so full! The server did come around with some pudding for dessert that was free with the meal. My husband did manage to eat a few more ribs I will definitely stop here again when traveling back and from from New Mexico

I always rely on Trip Advisor to find new restaurants on our travels. Never fails. We almost passed this gem up because it looked like a take out spot. Not so! Great place! Great food! I wish all the people in the world were as friendly and welcoming as the staff and patrons. Yes, the patrons seated near us gave us recommendations for their favorite dishes! We had a great time here! Don't miss it!

From the reviews was expecting better. A hole in the wall place, which are usually great, everything was so-so. Salsa tasted as if it was canned tomatoes with black pepper added. Could’ve been better.
