Twenty plus years ago my nephew bought a 1979 MGB V-8 that 5R Restorations had built. I flew in to Texas to complete the purchase and drive the car back to New Jersey. Initially I was very excited about the purchase but when I finally saw it in person I became extremely excited. It was beautiful. Ron picked me up at the airport, took me to the car, we completed the deal and then he took me to my friends house where I would spend the evening. I didn't want to leave the MG outside over night at my friends so Ron volunteered to pick me up the next morning so that I could pick up the MG at his shop and then head north...That's how it all played out. I took '''mostly''' back roads all the way to NJ.... What a good memory. Here I am 20 years later finally leaving feedback on that purchase. Well, our opinion hasn't changed. The car is still owned by my nephew and the car is still beautiful. It's almost a family member at this point. Thanks Ron !

Car runs worse after he worked on it then it did before. Took in for a miss. $1750 later he was unable to fix and now runs much worse. Very bad scratch drivers rear panel, grease on carpet, trash all over floorboard and a wrench left in engine compartment.

Definitely got the impression that these gentlemen know their vintage British cars. Saw some beautiful examples of their work while I was there collecting mine after having some electrical work addressed.

Ron Redding possesses outstanding knowledge of the MGB. He never performs new work without first calling and obtaining permission to do the work. I've owned a MGB for nearly 20 years and I can state without hesitation that Ron Redding and 5 R Restorations are the best in the business....PERIOD!Services: General repairs & maintenance

I've used Ron to order parts and witnessed the work he does in his shop. He is honest and does good work. Some of these classic cars need a lot more than TLC. From my observations, I would trust Ron. There are fat too few shops doing work like this

Do not take your car here if you want quality work done. We left our classic sports car here to be restored. We had already paid to have engine and transmission rebuilt. While at the shop hurricane Harvey hit. No one contacted us that the shop was flooded. It occurred to us to contact them just to be sure all was safe. They offered us no assistance and had left our engine and transmission full of water. We had to drive several hours to Brookshire to pick them up. Had to have them rebuilt. Be aware that he has no insurance to cover damages at his shop. We ended up taking car to another state to finish restoration. At that point we were out $15,000+ to him for body work and paint. The car was supposedly primered and ready for paint. The new shop was very disappointed in the subpar painting and welding as well as body work. There were holes in car from rust and rust under primer. Welding was horrible. We have photo proof. Reached out to Ron to get refund and let him know how unhappy and deceived we felt. He never returned our calls. My advice if you are taking your car here is DON'T DO IT!!!!

If I could give negatives stars, I would. We took our classic sports car here for restoration. It turned out to be a nightmare. After being at the shop for many months with little progress, hurricane Harvey arrived. We were never contacted to be told that the shop was completely flooded. It occurred to us that maybe there was a problem so we called and learned the bad news. Our newly rebuilt engine and transmission had been flooded. Ron never contacted us about this, nor did he offer any help. We went to Brookshire to pick up the ruined parts and paid to have them rebuilt for the second time. Apparently he doesn't carry insurance so be aware that you will be on your own if any damage occurs at his shop. We realized that this project was beyond the scope of this shop's capabilities. We had paid for the car to be prepped and primered for painting at that point. We ended up having the car shipped to another state to have work completed. This is when we found out that the work we had already paid for was substandard. The welding was shoddy, there was rust underneath the primer, and there were holes throughout the body. We had to have the work completely redone. We contacted Ron to let him know about the shoddy work that had been done. He never returned our calls. Long story short, we are out thousands of dollars and left with a car that basically had nothing done to it. The only saving grace is that we took the car from him before irreparable damage had been done. We wouldn't have known about the poor body work and primer as it would have been painted over. So a year or so down the road, problems would have been apparent. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE.

5R is the best English Car Shop I've ever come across. Ron the owner is a super nice guy, his work is excellent, and his prices reasonable. Most importantly, Ron is impeccably honest. I will only take my Austin Healey 100 to him. It's not often that you come across a shop like this...five stars. Of note, this was not a solicited review, I'm posting this completely of my own volition.
