Let me start by saying I wish I had pictures of the food my husband and I got but we literally ate everything so I'm gonna and got more food to go lol The speed of service was literally amazing the customer service was outstanding the girl behind the counter was very nice and helpful we tried a little bit of everything and all I can say is that hands down 1948 is the BEST BBQ place in Brownsville TX we will most definitely be coming back very soon with our family and friends ??

I have only tasted the moist brisket by the pound, and it keeps me coming back. It's like smoky barbacoa. This time, I got the $16 plate (new menu). I was sad to only get 2 medium slices, and the side portions were big, I prefer more meat, so I will go back to ordering by the pound.

No wonder this place don't have much people in the evening and they close late, they stop serving combo plates at 5pm. They refused to sell individual portions at 1/4 lbs to make it a combo at least that would have made this customer happy.

To each their own. 4.4 rating doesn't even come close. The side items were tastier than the meat entrees. Two type of sauces; pickles and onions only as condiments... Even Buc-ees is better.Parking: Great parking area

This place was the best experience I've had in a bbq place in a good while. Great filling food and the atmosphere was awesome.

Pulled up to the spot hard. The reviews were pretty high for this location so I just had to try it .Looking over the menu we had many options and the prices were moderate but I figure it should be solid .Between the price and quality I was a bit disappointed due to super small portions .The food was OK at best between the ribs and pork . I think at a better price point for the cost it would be much better especially for the general pricing in the region as a whole .

Their barbecue is one of the best in the city! My father in law invited my wife and I to go with him to eat. So we did not knowing that the food would be soo good!

I’m visiting from Florida but I’ve enjoyed BBQ all over the U.S. let me start with the staff-great customer service. When I said it was my first visit and I’m from out of town they stepped up to answer my questions. Thank you ladies for being so welcoming. I had the moist sliced brisket with the beans and potato salad. I also had a sample of pork as well. This is my second meal of Texas BBQ (dinner and now lunch). 1898 was a lot better than Rudy’s (x10). I’m totally lost with the beans in Texas. It was a lot better than Rudy’s but just not as good as others I’ve had in FL, GA, NC, SC and TN. The potato salad was ok. The sauces provided were good and helped. I would come back to try the other meats but I feel like I’m missing something in regards to TX bbq.

First visit and extremely pleased. Posts from other people warn to get there early if you want the full selection of meat. We were there at @3:30 and only brisket was available. But it was delicious! Potato salad was great. Cole slaw was kind of forgettable.Craft beer drinkers - they have a new beer garden with an excellent draft and can selection. The outdoor space is very well done. There are tables and adiriondac chairs, and an outdoor television. Highly recommend!

First time Glenn and I have been here and we have found our bbq place. Excellent brisket and the ribs fall off the bones. Outside dining, football on the Tv , clean and seems to be well run. Friendly staff is always a plus. We will be back!

Not bad bbq. I've tried many in the RGV and this doesn't hit the top 20. It is good but the if rating a meat, brisket is not very moist, the bread isn't fresh. The sides were not anything to even talk about. No tea offered which is a Texas staple for lunch bbq. Have to give low rating and won't try again. Remodeling so won't knock them on that right now.

This place is awesome and food is delicious. I've had the sausage sandwich and the chopped brisket sandwich on 2 separate occasions, and the meat was super moist. Had the Mac & and cheese, and it was amazing. What I am disappointed in is that they run out of food ?. So get there early!
