A couple of weeks ago, my husband was involved in an auto accident. We took our truck to this collision repair center to have it fixed, and while it was being repaired, we were provided with a rental.
It’s worth noting that our truck had been in a previous accident back in March as well, and even then, there were no issues with the A/C — it was working perfectly fine before and after that repair. So this is definitely not a long-standing problem.
Fast forward to today — the day before a holiday weekend — we received a call at 3 p.m. letting us know the truck was ready for pickup. Because we needed to return the rental car before the shop closed, we headed straight over and picked up the truck. Everything looked okay on the outside, so we drove off quickly.
But as I was driving, I immediately noticed hot air blowing out of the vents. I looked down and saw that the A/C was turned on and set to cold, yet hot air was coming out. It was clear something was wrong. Again, this was not an issue before we brought it in for this latest repair.
After dropping off the rental, we called the collision shop to report the issue. The staff member told us he’d “put it on the insurance,” but we explained that this isn't a matter for insurance — the A/C was in good working condition prior to this repair. We even stopped by the shop in person hoping for a resolution, but were told we’d have to wait until Monday (after the holiday weekend) to do anything.
Now we’re stuck for several days with a truck that blows hot air in the middle of summer, with no timeline, no accountability, and no effort to fix it promptly. We trusted the shop to return our truck in the same mechanical condition, and unfortunately, that did not happen.
We’re extremely disappointed in the lack of thoroughness and follow-up. At a minimum, basic functions like the A/C should be tested before returning the vehicle. We hope this issue is addressed quickly and properly — but this experience has definitely made us rethink using this shop again in the future.
