Beward of sudden and skyrocking rate changes. More than doubled our rate without any notification. The excuse of we tried to reach out... and then offering only $20 off of over $250 when the same unit online is only $50... Get you in the door and change the numbers seems to be their gimmick.

Predatory, beware rate creep. I got my 10x10 unit for $80/month when I started renting from Extra Space. Rates have steadily increased, and I'm now paying $250/month for the same unit listed for new renters for $59/month. They apparently inform you by postal mail if there is an increase, but they are counting on you not noticing.
Having an established customer with an excellent payment history pay just a hair under 5 times what a new customer pays is ridiculous and insulting. They are counting on it being too painful for you to move your stuff and keep paying the gouged rate instead.
Look, I get it, you need to offer deals to new customers to tempt them to join, but offering them $59 and making me pay $250 for the same unit is insane.

Update 8/30/25:
My payment was due 8/25 and I spoke to someone at the office and informed him that I would be making a payment Friday 8/39 and he informed me that there would be a $25 late fee which was ok because I was late. Well they called me yesterday evening I’m assuming before they closed and I was at work an unable to answer. When I cashed my payroll check tried paying over the app and the screen wouldn’t move passed the Billing Address so I was unable to pay. I tried again this morning and still no luck. I did notice that there was an additional $25 fee added to my balance. I spoke to Chris and informed him that I tried to pay it yesterday as I had agreed and he said that I had incurred an additional $25 I explained that their app wasn’t moving passed the billing address screen and he said “well you had 5 days to pay” which I know I did and he is correct but I’m sure like many I’m living paycheck to paycheck and I had to wait till payday to pay. And it’s not like I was hiding from them I called and told them I would be paying Friday. I don’t think it’s fare that I had to pay an additional $25 because their system wasn’t working properly but I paid it. Chris attitude made me upset and I mentioned i may move out of unit and guess what I received a text stating they received my notice to move out which I didn’t give any notice. I was upset at the additional $25 fee and Chris’s lack of customer service. Instead of him saying we’ll let me look into it and see if we can deduct the fee I get “well you had 5 days to pay”.
Disappointed in their service.
From the moment I called I had a great experience the lady who helped me, sorry I can’t remember her name was great. She walked me through the process and got me a unit that day. I got the gate code and was I formed my lock would be in unit. She suggested I download the app and I did and it’s great tool.
