We recently visited Harbor Freight Tools to purchase a jackhammer that, according to the website and store inventory, was listed as in stock. Since this location was the closest to our job site, we made a specific trip expecting to buy it quickly and get back to work. Unfortunately, the experience turned out to be a huge waste of time.
When we got there, we were told the only unit in the back had been returned due to a defect and couldn't be sold. The only other jackhammer in the store was a floor model, which we were more than willing to buy. However, the store manager, JEFF, refused to sell it, citing company policy against selling floor models.
To be fair, his employees did check other locations in the area to see if the jackhammer was available elsewhere, and we appreciated that effort. But that completely missed the point—we came to this specific store because it was the closest one to our job site. We didn't have time to drive across town or wait for shipping.
What made the situation even worse was JEFF’s attitude. While his team was at least trying to help, JEFF stood there doing nothing. He made no effort to problem-solve, offer alternatives, or escalate the issue. He was completely disengaged, and frankly, it felt like he didn’t care at all about helping a customer or making a sale.
It’s beyond frustrating that a store would turn away a willing buyer over a rigid policy, especially when it was the last available unit and the customer was right there ready to pay. Most retailers would’ve sold the floor model at a discount or found a workaround. Not here.
We ended up leaving and going to Northern Tool instead, where the service was far more professional and helpful.
Harbor Freight needs to take a serious look at how it empowers its managers and treats customers. We came in ready to spend money and left with nothing because of poor leadership and inflexible policies.way to go JEFF!!! 🙌🏼

Good alternative to the big box stores. I wish there were more locations in Montgomery though

Didn't have what I needed. The store is OK, but it is the first time I haven't been able to find any help. The cashier had to holler out the direction I should look. At least half a dozen people in line, checking out. It was not like this the last time I came here. I guess it is just a change of the times. Not enough workers serveing the public. They do have a lot of tools at a discount price. I just hope I know where to look next time to get what I want.

The store was clean and well lit. The employees were friendly and helpful. The man I spoke with seemed quite knowledgeable about what I was looking for and found me exactly what I needed, and he didn't hand me the most
expensive item on the shelf. I would have no qualms about suggesting them to family or friends and I'll will be going back in the future.

Almost obnoxiously good customer service. You'll have to experience the environment for yourself to really understand what I'm talking about

The others stores in north Houston always have good stock, not this one. Extension set, sanding blocks, chop saw, just top of my head recently out of stock... 👎👎👎
