Went to Pep Boys to get my A/C recharged and though I wouldn’t say it was anything major, I ended up with a few concerns about the experience. Throughout our conversation, the manager recommended services I had just told him I’d recently done myself, which made me question whether he was actually listening. So I even tested it, and no, he was just nodding his head saying “yeah” unless I was responding to his questions. On top of that, he repeatedly pushed me about my tires, even after I explained that Discount Tire had just replaced one for free when I had no money under the condition that I return to them. I understand pushing the up-sale, but that would have meant dishonoring my word and essentially stealing from Discount Tire, which I refuse to do. There’s a right time to push, and that wasn’t one of them. It was just another part of our interaction in which I feel like he wasn’t listening to me at all.
My biggest concern however, was the pricing structure. The total dropped from $75 for the inspection and recharge to $60.10 for just the recharge with my military discount. Assuming my discount was 10%, that means removing an entire cooling system inspection barely reduced the price, if at all. It made me wonder whether the inspection was ever truly a separate cost or if it was just used to justify the original $75 price that was given, especially when I had seen the same service listed online for $55. That kind of pricing inconsistency is frustrating and makes it hard for customers to trust they are getting a fair deal.
The manager there seemed really cool, but so do sharks, and the whole interaction just made me feel like I was in unsafe waters. I still gave four out of five stars because the service was fairly quick, the price itself wasn’t terrible, and my A/C seems to be working fine. But I’d advise anyone considering Pep Boys to double-check pricing beforehand and make sure they’re only paying for what they actually need.
I’m not trying to accuse anyone of anything shady or illegal, but after challenging the price and his momentary hesitation he became very focused on typing things up in his system, and my intuition tells me he adjusted numbers to keep the price where he wanted it, likely to secure his commission. I’ve worked in sales for years, and between that and my military background, I know when I’m being lied to or played. So while I am thrilled to have my A/C back up and running, the experience did leave me feeling a little uneasy about going back there in the future. Maybe not Pep Boys but this location at least.

On or about 01/26/2025, I Enrique Gonzalez visited Pep Boys and was extremely disappointed with the service. The customer service was poor, there were delays, and I was given the wrong products. I expected a much better experience, but unfortunately, it was far from what I anticipated. The staff seemed to have no idea what they were doing, and mistakes were made repeatedly on my Toyota Tundra.
I was charged nearly $3000, only to take the vehicle back multiple times for corrections. For example, I was charged $150 for an oil change, only to later find out they had not actually changed the oil. They also installed a speed sensor, but it was done incorrectly, causing the sensor harness to be ripped off, and triggering multiple warning lights on the dashboard (ABS and brake lights). When I returned to address the issue, they wanted to charge me again to install and purchase the part.
I spoke with the service manager, Hernandez, but he was no help. Both the mechanics and the management lacked knowledge and appeared to be untrained. I feel it would have been better to take my vehicle to a Walmart mechanic. I would never trust this location with any vehicle again.
I have been waiting for the district manager to contact me, but it has been nearly 2.5 months with no response. I have repeatedly called customer service with no follow-up. I even contacted the Pep Boys office in San Antonio, as the Corpus Christi location was giving me the runaround.
Additionally, I was told I needed a new CV shaft, but I had the work done by another mechanic for just $80 per side, with no issues. Pep Boys had quoted me nearly $2000 for the same work. I have receipts showing I was charged for services that were not provided. It is clear to me that this was a case of fraud.
The service manager, Rolando, was not helpful at all, and the female staff member also seemed uninformed. The mechanics clearly need more training, as they couldn’t even change oil properly, but they were quick to charge me for services they did not perform.
The mechanic that performed the job was John G hopefully he’s been trained Property
In conclusion, this was a horrible experience that I do not wish on anyone. I am still trying to get the matter resolved, but the lack of customer service and the quality of the work is unacceptable. I would not recommend this location to anyone. I hope the company works on improving customer service and quality control in the future.

They say they open at 7:30, but no one is here. They also don't take payment over the phone. Be respectful of people's time when they are jusy trying to pay you before they go to work. Don't lie about your hours if no one is going to be here. The hours on the door say 7:30am as well. I'm going to be late to my work because you can't be on time to yours.

I had a very frustrating experience with Pep Boys while traveling seven hours away from home. About 1.5 hours from the Corpus Christi location, I noticed a large bubble on the outside of my tire. I immediately called the store to inquire about warranty coverage and tire availability. The representative told me she would contact the Waco Valley Mills location for information and call me back, but after waiting 45 minutes on the side of the road, I received no response.
When I followed up, I spoke with Assistant Manager Chris, who said he would also reach out to Waco and get back to me. We decided to drive to the Corpus location in the meantime. Chris did call back but still needed details he should have obtained when contacting Waco.
The situation became even more frustrating from there. Initially, they claimed to have my tire in stock, then said they didn’t, then realized they had the wrong size written down. After finally confirming they had a replacement, they refused to honor the road hazard and 65K-mile warranty, even though their own Assistant Service Manager admitted the tire was defective and sold to me at the Waco location.
To make matters worse, I later discovered that the Waco location had kept my tire lock key, preventing the Corpus store from removing my tire once they finally approved the free replacement. I had to go to a competitor, Discount Tire, who removed the lock free of charge.
Despite calling customer service multiple times and being promised a supervisor call back by 8 PM the same day, I didn’t receive a response for two days. When I returned to the Corpus store after getting the tire lock removed, I expected them to prioritize my replacement given the ongoing delays. Instead, I had to wait hours again because they only had one person handling tire replacements, and he had other jobs and a lunch break before getting to mine.
This experience was an absolute nightmare—wasting hours of my time and leaving me stranded. I will never use Pep Boys again and will strongly advise others to avoid them as well.
