A friend repaid me using this service. I went to their website and followed the directions in order to pick the money up from a local CVS. I had to input all my personal information; address/phone number/driver's license number/date of birth etc. I received confirmation that all I need to do was have my DL and the transaction number and I could pick it up. I arrived at CVS and was told there was a problem and I would have to speak with MoneyGram. They have these red phones that directly connect you. Reached an automated system that asked for ALL the information I had already put in on-line. Then connected me to a Customer service representative who then proceeded to ask me the exact same questions! Then she asked for the transaction number and the name of the sender. I gave her his first and last name and she said that it didn't match and so she couldn't release the hold. I called my friend and asked if someone else had sent the money to me. He said no and that they had asked him for his ID in order to send it. I asked him to check his ID. His ID included his middle name. They actually were holding up the release because I didn't know his MIDDLE name. The representative's accent was so heavy, I had a difficult time understanding her and had to ask multiple times to please repeat what she was saying. I told my friend to NEVER use this company again.

Absolutely unreasonable and terrible customer service! All call centers are outside the US, quite a few in the countries of the third world where their employees absolutely do not know what they are doing! They are cancelling money transfers and accounts for no reason! They keep money for 5-7 days, obviously using them, then they cancel transaction without any explanation, because some d*** a** "customer service" person that is siting somewhere in a jungle decides to deactivate someone's transaction or account. The people that we can get on the phone are not thinking logically, they cannot give any explanation, no one ever knows about anything, they just read the script that had been provided to them. The company claims that their services are "to transfer money to friends and family". That's exactly what I was trying to do a few times in some emergency situations. They kept the money for 7 days, then cancelled transactions and deactivated my account for no reason! One of the worst companies I had ever used. Dealing with them is a waste of time, money and emotions!

It should really be zero star. In the summer of 2017, they cancelled my account for absolutely no reason. They will hang up on you. They will ask you a million questions to authenticate you, and when all is answered they will tell you you're not who you say you are (oh so frustrating). They will tell you there are no managers to speak to. Can they reset the account? No. When will this be resolved? No one knows. Actually, it will never get resolved -- it's now Dec. 2018 and I still can't get my account back or have someone at Moneygram respond to communications. Because they stored certain pertinent data, creating a new account (with let's say a new email) is impossible as the network recognizes your other data as previously used. Making Moneygram transactions online was convenient: electronically from the comfort of your own home/space and with cheaper fees. Now with this highjack and the inability to make online transaction indefinitely, the only option left to send money to a recipient w/o a bank account is to go get the cash, go to a store location, pay higher fees. What a trap they have in place -- locking up accounts and forcing customers to go to the stores and pay higher fees)! If there are any other way for you to send/receive money, go for it.

-Canceled our account for no reason. -Customer service on the phone stated "we do not have supervisors in this office." refused to let me speak to a supervisor. -Customer service stated "we have no information on corporate" and said they did not understand what I meant by "contact information for corporate" -Corporate phone number 214-999-7552 rings to a voicemail for "Alice" and has no other information. Will never use this awful company again, after years of being a loyal customer.

Wife tried to send money to daughter. Sending location Walmart and receiving location CVS - transaction failed. Customer service staff (employee and supervisor) could not explain why the transaction failed. Further, they did a poor of explaining the process for getting a refund. Salesman at one of the locations says the issue is with Walmart, but we are not sure of the reason. This sounds like a chronic problem that Moneygram International refuses to fix. We will never use this firm again.

Received horrible service today from Naymar. He refused to let me talk to management, kept me on hold and then ended the call.

DO NOT USE MONEYGRAM! this place is a joke. I tried sending money online cuz it's convenient, right? Hell no! Because i signed up online, it's automatically flagged for extra security. As if the online wasn't secure enough with 6 security questions. So I called and they want to ask more security questions and then they want to know your business like why am i sending money and how i know the person and when did i see them last. THIS PLACE IS A JOKE. After i go thru all that they want to decline my request. Oh and they have a limit on how much you can send (2999) per month! Are u kidding me!? So i decided to GO TO WESTERN UNION and compared to a $177 fee at MG, WU only charged $46. One star is way too high for this place

If I could rate this company a minus star, I would. They make it so difficult to send a small amount of money; I understand security, however, there is no help when you are having a problem. And boy, do they want to know your bloodtype and first born's name. GO ELSEWHERE TO SEND MONEY!!!

My family members and I have had a terrible experience with this company. This company has proven that it does not care about its customers. Since it is obvious that I am not going to get any assistance from this company I am writing this in every place that I can think of to help other consumers avoid the mistake that my family made. There are similar companies like Western Union that will offer you the same services but with a much better outcome. My mother sent me a money gram and it was impossible to pick it up. She went to the store and told me that I needed to pick it up within 90 days and that I should pick it up yesterday. At the store she sent it at, they told her that it would not be a problem for me to pick it up yesterday and even if it was after 90 days I could just call MoneyGram and they would assist me with picking it up at whatever time I needed it. On yesterday, I went to CVS to pick the money up. I used the kiosk and spoke to a money gram customer service agent; he was rude and so were all of the other agents I spoke with. Furthermore, he purposely took down my license number incorrectly. He repeated the things that I said so I know that I gave him the right license number. He told me that I would be able to receive the money and to pick it up from the CVS cashier. The CVS cashier told me that I could not receive the money because there was a block on the money and because my license number was written down wrong. So I went back to the kiosk to call the money gram customer service officials again and the individuals kept hanging up. This kept going on for over 4 hours. I would call, they would hang up immediately, put me on hold, transfer me, give me the wrong information, yell at the CVS store clerk and blame the problem on him, and/or eventually hang up with no assistance to me. There was one guy who was exceptionally rude and he refused to give me his name. He constantly kept hanging up on me. I think his behavior is extremely unprofessional and he should be fired. Basically, I spent hours trying to reach customer service agents and they refused to assist me. The store clerk was there to witness this. I was in a store alone until 1:30 AM and I had to walk back to my apartment by myself; my elderly disabled mother who is in a different time zone was up until 4AM in the morning worried about everything. I know that this was very unprofessional and just plain rude and they just did not want to release the money. I think that this is unacceptable and something should be done about this. MoneyGram it would be very considerate of you if you realize that your consumers are human and you treat them as such. Furthermore, consumers please be wary of this company.

DO not use the online service. They are incompetent and down right liars. One could not transfer the call; the second time the agent just hung up. Then they proceeded to ask a bunch of questions that were NONE of their business. HOW often do I plan to send my son money? REALLY? Why do they need to know that?

IGNORE THIS COMPANY: I should have known what I was getting into when I researched MoneyGram Intl in Wikipedia: "In November 2012, MoneyGram International admitted to anti-money laundering and wire fraud violations.[25] MoneyGram services were used by unrelated parties involved in mass marketing and consumer phishing scams that defrauded thousands of victims in the United States.[26] As a part of the settlement, MoneyGram created a $100 million victim compensation fund.[27] MoneyGram also retained a corporate monitor who will report regularly to the United States Department of Justice for a five-year trial period. If MoneyGram fulfills its obligations under the settlement, prosecutors will seek dismissal of the charges of aiding and abetting wire fraud.[27] MoneyGram also terminated any agents complicit in the 2009 scams and invested more than $84 million in improvements to the company's consumer anti-fraud systems and consumer awareness education.[26]" That's only 2 yrs ago, and I can say their attitude toward phone and online customers, as I experienced, is "F--- You." I do plenty of 5-star Yelp reviews but I do not hesitate to trash a company that deserves it. USE ANOTHER MONEY TRANSFER SERVICE is the bottom line here. I was trying to send $250 to Liberia to a trusted source (embassy worker, friend-of-a-friend in Ghana) and wasted two hours setting up the transfer before being told (only after I called repeatedly, that the transaction (from a debit card) was rejected. They took all sorts of security info -- who knows where that went, in a corp paying a $100million settlement!? The irony is that the $ was bound for a known group, a "sister church" my little church has in Liberia (a place reeling from ebola virus of course). The value of my time-wasted exceeds the amount I was trying to transmit! I won't list all the insulting time-wasters this firm has devised, except to mention "transaction processing"as a screen message, followed by a time-out. The message had been "check your email for a confirmation number" and the thing times-out. Called "Customer Service" 3 times reaching workers w no supervisors and no ability to return calls, follow up, or send email! Another email message said "call us about your transaction" which I did but was greeted by a message that they were overwhelmed w call traffic and try later or hold -- I held and was disconnected! The employees I finally reached (Abby, Helder, and Ruben) were pathetic though I reminded them I know they don't make the rules that waste my time (the suits do). SKIP THIS COMPANY -- THEIR FEE WAS ALSO THE HIGHEST OF THE GROUP SURVEYED BY WORLD BANK:
