Trinity River Audubon Center is a hidden gem just 10 miles south of downtown Dallas. This 130-acre nature preserve sits on a former illegal dump site, now reclaimed as a haven for a diverse community of plant and animal species. The center is your gateway to explore the 6,000-acre Great Trinity Forest, the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States. Trails wind through a unique mixture of bottomland hardwood forest, wetland, and prairie habitat, providing ample opportunities to spot a vast array of birds and other wildlife. Visitors praise the serene atmosphere and easy, non-strenuous trails suitable for all. While poison ivy can be found along the trails, tennis shoes are recommended to navigate the terrain. The center's staff is described as kind, and the property features educational information about the importance of nature and wildlife conservation. Whether you're new to the Dallas area or a lifelong resident, Trinity River Audubon Center offers a peaceful escape and a chance to connect with the great outdoors, just a short drive from the city.
