Went here after being thoroughly disappointed at the Honda dealership in Denison. They are great and very detailed. Courteous and professional. They listened to my thoughts about the issues and have great mechanics. Their inspections find potential issues of vehicles in the future but also the immediate ones that are safety related. Simply put, experienced shop and takes care of customers. Will return here in future.

While driving my 2021 Ram 1500, I noticed coolant leaking into my passenger floorboard with an accompany of a sweet smell (all signs pointing towards a failing heater core). Up to this point and at drop off, my AC worked as good as new. Johns’ mechanics looked over the vehicle and to no surprise, it was a failing heating core. I was quoted just under $2,200 to complete the repair. After seeing how this needs to be fixed, I allowed them to do the repairs. During the repairs, the entire dash is to be dismantled, AC lines disconnected, and the entire system is to be discharged, evacuated and then recharged. After picking up my truck, about a week later, my AC stopped working. Cool air did not flow through the vents, only warm air. I called back John Chaks and told them what I was experiencing. They asked me to leave it to be inspected. The next day, I received a report that my AC was overcharged by about 1 ounce or 25 grams and that my compressor was weak. Upon learning this, I called a dealership and asked what the repercussions were for an overcharged system of this amount as a second opinion(even though I already had a strong idea due to research). Out of respect, I never mentioned names of companies and was told that it could lead to damaging of the compressor. I called back John Chaks and asked what could have caused the overcharge on my system? They responded by saying the car was actually never overcharged, a new employee put that on the ticket, and that she was going to remove it from the ticket all together (mind you I have the ticket and pictures of the gauge when they extracted the gas showing an overcharge). This worried me as soon as I was told that it was not overcharged (even though I have the evidence to prove it) and that it would be scrubbed from the ticket, almost like something was being hidden. I asked the front desk lady if she would give my number to John so that we may talk about this. The next day I received a call from John to discuss. The call was respectful. I had voiced my concerns about the AC working fine before the heater core repair, that my system was found to be overcharged and that it potentially impacted the performance and damaged the compressor (again, John Chaks was who charged my system). John stated that he had never heard of an overcharged system damaging the compressor (a quick search could refute this), that the shop can be at times a “mechanic daycare” and that sometimes their to busy to watch what mechanics put on the tickets they submit (to me this read as a way of hiding items that could be seen as negative to them if they did the work), and that the dealership I used as a second opinion was not to be reliable (pretty large ram dealership in Sherman TX). In Johns words, “I’m not going to bad mouth another shop, but I have a lot of their vehicles that come back to me”. My family has used John several times over years and years and it’s a shame that this is the way it ended. It really feels as though I trusted John Chaks with my truck, they damaged it (intentionally or not), attempted to hide it, and would not own up to it.

This place is the most dependable and honest shop in Sherman. When ever I need service on my car John always as a rental car available so I can keep working.
This is so helpful to me, especially in an emergency situation. Also, Tyler and Dona run the front office. They are very thoughtful and knowledgeable when it comes to ordering parts and getting them at the best prices.

John Chaks Auto is truly a credit to our community. Ask any customer of his constant care and genuine concern for their best safety and well being. John speaks personally with every employee and customer to be sure all are informed and expecting the very best outcome. He knows his limitations and can save you expensive (often needless) “pull and replace” tactics used by many shops today. A wonderful stable and reliable source of quality automotive repair . I was referred to John from discount tires- I had to get two tires replaced and needed and alignment and am from out of town. I did a google and could only find good reviews, so I decided to try him out and am so glad I did. He is honest, a clear communicator, professional, and just seems like an all around nice guy. I ended up being in his waiting room for around 3 hours (due to extenuating circumstances; not anything the shop did) and seeing him interact with his customers was very… comforting almost? He was always so polite and low pressure when talking to customers about estimates. I’d happily patronize his business again if I had the opportunity.
