I've had several CPA's over the years and these guys have been the best. From helping me run a business to helping me with taxes on the sale of a business to helping me with personal taxes annually, these folks have been great. I wanted to schedule a consultation meeting to discuss some of my questions and, based on that, decide what the plan would be for the next year. They mentioned that the consultation fee is $200 for a 30-minute meeting, which I agreed to. However, they later said that if I do not commit to having them prepare my taxes for upcoming years, they will not schedule the meeting with me. This seems strange.

5 year customer, I've had enough. Buyer beware.
Tax year 2022: Firm raised my fee around April 1st. With only 2 weeks left to file, this firm left me no choice but to agree. They did discount the fee, but was very unprofessional not to notify the client nor give ample time for the client to find another CPA.
Tax year 2023: New Tax Engagement Memorandum form they require you to sign. Some highlights:
"We are responsible for preparing only the returns listed above. Our fee does not include responding to inquiries of examinations by the taxing authorities, consultation/advisory, bookkeeping, or other such services."
TRANSLATION: If audited by the IRS based on their filing, they are not accountable for the audit without an added fee.
"although our firm will use our best efforts to ensure that your returns are successfully transmitted to the appropriate taxing authorities, we will not be financially responsible for electronic transmission or other errors arising after your returns have been submitted from our office"
TRANSLATION: No guarantee they'll successfully transmit your return to the IRS, only a best effort. Isn't that what we're paying for?
"Communications solely concerning the preparation of a tax return will not be privileged. If we are asked to disclose any privileged communication [by definition there aren't any] by law, we will not provide such disclosure until you have had an opportunity to argue that the communication is privileged. You agree to pay any and all reasonable expenses that we incur including legal fees, that are a result of attempts to protect any communication as privileged"

I was unhappy with a previous accountant and referred to Micheal and his company. They took care of 2 years of problems in 2 weeks! BEWARE - We've experienced a lack of integrity, follow through and customer service working with this business. They have refused to share any documentation for MY company. Now I am forced to report them to Cory Joiner, Chair, Professional Ethics Committee. We really do not want to take this route, however we are left with no choice. Very disappointing.

We have been working with Swimelar CPA since 2012. Michael is always very responsive and goes out of his way to help us with our tax issues and complicated tax return preparation.
