I got an oil change at Firestone in Galveston on April 11, 2025 and they put the wrong oil in my engine. So I call and the technician argues with me telling me his computer says 5w-30. I kindly explain to him the vehicle takes 0w-20. He tells me that his computer is information from the manufacturer and it is correct. I again tell him my manual and oil cap calls for 0w-20 he continues to argue with me so I end the call. I was going to get my free oil change from the dealer, but then I thought about it, the dealer didn’t put the wrong oil in my engine. So I call Firestone back and asked for a manager. I explain the situation and he agrees to put the correct oil into my vehicle. I bring the car in the morning of April 12, 2025 and the manager states “I have to note on the documentation that it was requested the oil be 0w-20 instead of the 5w-30 our computer tells us.” I let him know that 0w-20 is not what I am asking for, that is what the manufacturer is calling for on the oil cap and manual. I offered to show him the oil cap. He then asks “Who owns the vehicle?” I responded with I own the vehicle. Why does it matter at this point who owns the vehicle? You put the wrong oil into my engine! This was a nightmare experience seeing that I drive a 2025 Chevrolet Trax and the vehicle is brand new. This is my first oil change and the wrong oil was put into my engine. Thank God I read the invoice! This could have affected my warranty which is what I am aiming to avoid. I feel it was a hassle to get them to put the correct the oil type in my brand new car. The first rep argued with me his computer was right, but it wasn’t. The manager made me also feel he didn’t believe my eyes over their computer system. I had to show him the oil cap to get him to accept my request of the correct oil type. It is wild to think that the technician that changed my oil didn’t look at the oil cap to confirm the oil! Always double check your work before, during, and after in any field you work in! I will be submitting this to the Consumer Protection division as well as BBB. If you drive a 2025 vehicle be sure to tell them what type of oil your car takes because they will likely not check the oil cap only the computer which was incorrect.

My family and I limped into the parking lot and we were greeted by John who was quick to ask “What happened?” with sincere concern… we had two flat tires on the passenger side of our car. He was quick to assess and said “I would love to help you but unfortunately we don’t have the size tire in stock!” I let him know we were heading home after our cruise and he was very kind in offering us a location that might be able to help us get back on the road.. We took his recommendation and the shop was able to accommodate us and within 30 minutes we were back on the road home!! Thank you John for your honesty and kindness even though we didn’t purchase anything that day Firestone gained a new customer moving forward!!!

My old 2001 Volvo station wagon needed registration, so I went to see Jon Crowell at this great auto shop. They'd done front end work for me a year ago, so I knew how good they were. Well, the check engine light was all about a problem with the turbo, and Jon told me it was probably very expensive to correct. Because of that, he didn't even charge me that day, AND recommeded an awesome Place to go, Area 51 Auto in Texas City.
These people were AWESOME! They went out of their way to help me, knowing I lived on the Island, AND managed to fix the problem for way less than I expected. A lot of times when auto places find something serious, it's more like doom and gloom, and no options. Jon was confident that my ol' car could be fixed by Area 51, and encouraged me in that.
Just his attitude alone is really impressive, but as we were talking, I asked him about his shop and the guys working there. He knew them all well, spoke very highly of each one, and told me how long each one had been working there. This is a sign of a very professional Manager who cares about his people, and who puts customer service above everything else.
Outstanding job, Jon!
