Every man, woman and child should visit this museum and pay respect to the brave souls that sacrificed everything for their freedoms. God Bless Texas

Well worth a visit. Of course, the centerpiece of the museum is the "Come and Take It" cannon, which seems tiny compared to the impact of the events surrounding it. The museum also houses an eclectic collection of local artifacts and photos. The memorial is a beautiful art deco design. The staff was very friendly even though we were the last visitors of the day.

This is a very small museum and it was being rearranged the day we went so things were in disarray. They only charged us $3 since it wasn't finished, but I think the normal price is $5. The highlight of the museum is the Canon. It is the original Canon that fired the first shot of the Texas Revolution. There is a replica in another part of the museum, but it was cool to see the original. There is also paper money from the Civil War Era and letters. It's all very interesting but it could be done better. It's worth a quick stop, though.

What a hard place to rate. If you were comparing to something like The Alamo itself it would score low. But this type of museum is really a category of its own. It captures the connection the small town of Gonzales has to its history and how deeply everyone there feels about that connection. Is is well curated? Not in the least but it’s got things you can see no where else like the actual Come And Take It Cannon! Instead of learning something from well written plaques you have interesting conversations with people who are generationally connected to the history of Texas. It is really a hidden gem in a otherworldly historical town. I definitely want to go back and see everything available. It’s a beautiful museum memorial cared for by lovely people.

Come and take it! Here it is.... The canon that started a revolution. The symbol, the myth. Great history lesson. When we visited, half of the museum was closed for renovations but what we experienced was great. The only negative goes to the State of Texas. Our legislature should be 100% behind this place and create one of the best museums in Texas. This place screams TEXAS and should be expanded and held up to the world as an example.... This is who we are!!!!!!

I am rating 2 stars because there is no information on the website about admission. We saw a picture from someone else's review showing $5... not a problem.... BUT no where did we see it was CASH ONLY until we got there and saw the sign INSIDE by the register. We do not carry cash regularly so it would have been nice to know beforehand so we could plan accordingly.

The museum is small compared to the size of the building. The reflecting pool had algae growing in it. The museum has interesting artifacts such as paper money from the Republic of Texas and the Confederacy. The original cannon was the highlight of the museum.

Crazy to think about how Gonzales, as small of a town/city it is, so much history happened there. Texas Independence truly started right there and it's unfortunately unnoticed by so many. Very interesting to learn more about new stuff about my state.

The museum itself was a little underwhelming. 2 small rooms are packed with knick knacks from time immemorial. The star of the show is a tiny little canon as the centerpiece. There is a bigger replica in the next room that was used to fire at the centenary as the actual canon in question was lost to time. It was recently rediscovered during a major flood when floodwaters exposed the canon. It's a must visit for those interested in Texas history. I think that Goliad has developed their potential a lot better than Gonzales. However, the other parts of Gonzales is fairly interesting. Don't forget to visit the historical jailhouse sitting next to the courthouse. A narrator was present to point out all the interesting quirks about the jail.

One of my favorite museums. Only $5 to enter. It's got a lot of neat artifacts, including the cannon that began the Texas Revolution. The curator is knowledgeable, and did a good job telling the story of the recovery of the cannon. There are many very neat artifacts, but the museum isn't so big that you can't see everything. It's the perfect size for me. Good information. Some of it can be more logically/sequentially presented. The only real complaint is the collection of dolls is creepy. Almost made me give it a 4 star review.

We have never visited Gonzales, Texas, but had to visit for business reasons today. We decided to visit the Gonzales Memorial Museum because we wanted to learn more about the origin of the infamous "Come and Take It" motto in relation to Gonzales. There was a very nice and welcoming gentleman that helped us when we paid our museum fee. The museum is small and in two sections, but very well organized and detailed in information. We got to see the infamous cannon and its history, among other historical data regarding Gonzales' citizens who participated in Texas' Independence from Mexico. The museum honors the Immortal 32 - those who were from Gonzales who died at the Alamo. There were also artifacts from different time periods in Gonzales, too. Overall, a very nice museum - very clean and the grounds were well-taken care of, with the exception of the museum's reflecting pool which is undergoing renovations at this time. The outdoor amphitheater was a surprise to see and must be a nice gathering place for outdoor events.

COME SEE THE AUTHENTIC “COME AND TAKE IT CANON!” If you are a proud Texas or someone who just appreciates liberty, you will love visiting this awesome small museum. It was a good price to get to read and see so much history!
