Warning to anyone considering donating to or adopting from Austin Boxer Rescue—my experience raises serious concerns. I was denied the chance to adopt a boxer despite having the experience, means, and desire to provide a great home. Their reasoning? My 78 year old father didn’t give heartworm meds to his 10+ old senior dog the last years of its life. That’s the justification they gave—no discussion, no reconsideration. It’s hard not to question whether this rescue is more interested in donations than actual placements. I’ll be sharing my experience widely to help others see through the PR.

I adopted zoom last year. Austin boxer rescue gave me helpful information on his diet and provided his favorite toys, including a Kong, when I adopted him. Austin boxer did an excellent job selecting a good fit for me
Once I got him home I realized that he may have underlying health issues that still needed to be treated, which the vet confirmed. I did notice that his health records appeared not great and I decided to not return him within the window provided to do so if I wanted to. I spent lots of time and thousands of dollars at the vet helping him get healthy and despite the stress and frustration involved, it was worth it.
Zoom is such a well behaved dog who loves to play with other dogs and myself. I'm grateful for being able to adopt him.

Wonderful place. We were fortunate to be approved for fostering. The volunteers do everything possible to help save Boxers, and keep them safe and happy. I picked up our sweet girl from the amazing team here. Thanks y’all!

They denied our application for festering because we said we would allow the dog to run in our fully fenced backyard while we were inside the house rather than having the dog sit in a crate.

We just picked up our very first puppy to foster, a white boxer Kirkwood! The process to be a foster family was quick and smooth, while being thorough. Thanks to Laura & Karen. At the facility, Babs was very helpful, she saw right away what puppy was the best fit for our family. What this rescue does is simply amazing, and that's mainly thanks to their volunteers, fosters and donors, that are caring for all of those Boxers in need.We personally hope to care for Kirkwood, and many more Boxers after him, until each find their well deserved loving forever family. ?

My father adopted an older boxer over the summer after grieving the loss of his previous boxer.Dad is now treating this new boxer for heart worms & trying to diagnose the cause of swelling in his belly. As the former director of St. Mary Humane Society, I am having a hard time understanding how a reputable organization can adopt out a dog in such poor health.

Unfortunately they denied my application, we buy our pet meds online and never thought to keep records. One dog died almost 5 years ago and the other 1year and both were over 10 yrs old. We were disappointed, we could not rescue a puppy.Everything worked out tho because we are giving a forever home to our new puppy ?.I admire the standards rescues have but just as we have compassion for our fur babies maybe have some for moms and dad's. Our family had been thru a lot especially with COVID. Maybe we should look at people as a whole versus a checklist.

We adopted our wonderful, beautiful Boxer (2 years old) Ty-Ty over ten years ago and brought her home here to San Antonio. Austin Boxer Rescue/Andrea (her foster mom) provided us with the love of our lives. A true, loyal and loving family member for over 9 1/2 years. Ty-Ty passed last year and we’re still heartbroken. But the true joy that she brought to our lives all started with these great folks at Austin Boxer Rescue. I highly, highly encourage all to look into this if you’re at all interested in bringing home a new family member who in some strange way, understands the blessing that you would be sharing with them especially after going through whatever it was that lead them to be rescued by this great organization.Ready to bring joy and more love into your family home? This is where you can make that happen. ?? Thank you Austin Boxer Rescue. ??Thank you so much Andrea!!! Forever grateful.
