I originally posted this review in late 2020. Then I realized I posted it on the wrong restaurant. ?♂️I travel the country for work every week, and I really enjoy finding little gems like this!! I've had bbq from every region in these states, and I would by far say that this is now one of my top 3 favorite places for bbq!! I went with the recommendation of the young lady at te register, and I got the ribs and the sausage as well as some loaded Mac and cheese and some beans. All of it was absolutely amazing. The sausage was perfect, not chewy like you tend to find. The ribs were absolutely amazing! The smoke flavor, the tenderness, they were absolutely delicious! You can tell that they take pride in their food here. After I ate my food, I waddled back in to get a slice of pecan pie. Before I went back inside, I had the pleasure of hanging out near the smoker and had a good chat with Mr. Pickins one of their pitmasters. He told me a quick history of the town, the business and its owner, and a bit about himself too. This place is 1000% worth a visit if you are anywhere near it.

Reopened and the best in town! We stopped in last week and got 2 Double Meat plates, surprised that they’ve been reopened for quite some time. The Huntsville Item needs to write a new review article! Or use mine. Lol. The pitmaster and family packed our order up fast with thoughtful touches, a layer of foil between food, utensils and extra sauces. The ribs are chin-dripping juicy and the flavor of the rub and smoke is perfection. Nothing pre-made about the unique savory sauce. We’ve tasted nothing like it here in town. The white meat chicken was intense with flavor—charred skin and juicy meat—unbelievably juicy. Also the best sides we’ve had. The potato salad is rich and fresh tasting. The beans are deliciously spiced and thickly sauced, not thin and vinegary like other places. I only wished I had ordered extra. We’ll be back for brisket and sausage, which is all everyone ordered while I picked up my plates. Customers told me these are the best menu items, but hard to believe they could be *better* than the ribs and pulled pork! Oh! Btw, the pecan pie was a dream of heaven. It blows away the Pie Bar’s. What magical thing are they doing to make it ooze like that? I actually glows like gold. I hope they never get a new place. Love the homey shack-like atmosphere and impossible to spot driveway. Makes you feel like you found something. ‘Cause you did.

Glad to see that Mt Zion has reopened their bbq restaurant. This is where our bbq across Tx odyssey began years ago. We used to think there wasn't any place better than this one. To begin with we are glad to see that they have gone back to using wood, instead of propane. The brisket was the best out of the 3 meats. Sausage was a close 2nd. Ribs still need some work, but then they still did years ago. Although they have improved. Sides are definitely better. Coleslaw, beans and potato salad have upgraded. The grandkids of the original owners have "done good" in carrying on the tradition of how bbq should be done.
