Great facility. I love the new updates. I am an alumni and to see all the upgrades made to facility has made me jealous but it has come a long way. Very spacious now especially when it comes to lifting weights because of the additional equipment. The basketball court has wonderful grip and I’m always getting some good runs in when I come and visit.

Now that several years have passed, I'd like to share my experience working here when I was a student at SHSU. I was a hard working kid at the time, I might of been late once in a blue moon, but I made up to it by working hard. I had made friends with some international students who wanted to try out the gym. I told them to give me a quick text to let them know they were on their way so I can help them get aquainted with the equipment on the floor. Well, I also went through a traumatic family experience as well. My mother was calling me nonstop and texting me to call her. I was told my brothers military Unit (stationed in Afghanistan) had a terrible automobile accident that killed a few soliders. There was an ongoing investigation at that moment, but the families were not being notified who died at the moment. The next day i found out, by the grace of God, that he was changed to a different assignment mere minutes before he was about to go with his unit. I notified a shift lead on the floor what was happening and she said that it was fine since it was a family emergency as long as i didnt let it distract me too much (i had a smart watch on so i could quickly look and keep working). The next moments go by with numerous messages from my family, that I didn't notice the international students came by and were having problems with entry. One of the front desk girls (we will call here Becky, because I forgot her name by this point and honestly didn't care to after this incident) rudely calls for me to help them, she also notices that I was looking at my smart watch at my messages and gets petty. She notifies our highest in charge management, which turns into a termination. Keep in mind, I had no (one if any) warnings and definitely no occurences at that time. I hope that who ever was involved with the termination, including "Becky" sees this, because that showed me that there was no integrity and honesty whatsoever in this place. I'm glad I dodged a bullet, because im became much happier living my life and moving forward at another university. Let this be a lesson to anyone thinking about wanting to work here or even at the school. There will be a Becky with a petty power trip that may lose you a job in the future.

Great place to work out. The place is nice and clean. One day passes are $10 a day. Was here in town for work. Mostly college kids come here.

Didn't even go, completely disgusted at the hours. Six hours a day for something that needs to be manned by minimal staff is completely unacceptable, any gym can be 24/7 with minimal effort SHSU is just as cheap as it gets.

Great place for physical fitness. You will get a lot of equipment for exercise. I have found it's very well maintained.

Useless if you go for fitness. If you don't care what you're working on, you can probably find a machine and camp out for an hour like all the students do; i.e. students will camp out on a machine for an hour or so while scrolling social media. If you're serious about fitness, you'll have to find a paying gym in town.

Availability of equipment is totally depend on when you go. Some equipments are broken and take considerably longer time to fix. Some weighting equipments only abailable one per each item and i usually find no chance to use some particular once. But i enjoy going there to the most part.

Staff is petty and unreasonable not bringing a towel without being warned ahead of time apparently means you get suspended. Dude literally is a fake bicep meanie highly unrecommended considering my gains were stopped in progress.

The bad thing is the hours.1.) change them so I’m not under the influence that y’all closing at 8 and not 10 pm on weekdays2.) there’s a lot of students that use this facility even on weekends but hours are short. Why?Other than that, the place is clean and pretty well regulated.

Nice place to workout but make sure you bring a towel with you to this place if you plan to workout. You will be constantly bothered by the staff if you are not seen with one on your person.

Staff is very unreasonable. My girlfriend was dress coded for what she was wearing. She wore a long sleeve gym shark shirt that reveals a little bit of stomach and back which is completely normal for gym attire. Staff member told her if her back reveals one more time, she has to leave. Wow. No other gym ever has ever had a problem with this. People wear even more revealing clothing during classes. Very disappointed.

If you go to the college or work for the college then the Recreational Sports Center is a great place to go. They have a variety of machines that are available. During the Fall And Spring school year the gym is a bit crowded at times but it is expected since it is mostly used by college students. During the summer it is the best place. There isn't many people who goes so guarantees use of machines quicker without having to wait.Lastly, they have been great dealing with safety protocols to prevent COVID cases within the building.

Not bad. They have just about everything you would need in a gym. From sprinters to power lifters, you're bound to find your preference

Weekend hours are not good at all. You get chased out for dunking the basketball on a basketball court. You get chased around about having a towel that they “rent” for $2 or sell for $5. Pretty good besides that.
