The Vet, Dr. Ricky was efficient, technical, careful, and supportive. With the recommendation of lab, x-rays, and ultrasound, my girl was returned home to nurse her puppies with medication and instructions on follow-up. Thank you for your immediate attention. “Dr. Rafael and his staff have always treated my babies and myself with the utmost care and respect. The staff is so kind and patient and Dr. Rafael is so thorough; it is very obvious that he has found his passion and life’s purpose. I met the staff back last year when my cockatiel Piki hurt herself in an accident. I was panicked and called around the area crying and seeking emergency help. Dr. Rafael immediately accepted us for an appointment that same hour and was able to examine her and give her a clear bill of health! I was so panicked and Dr. Rafael, Julien, and other staff were so kind and helped calm me down and reassure me, while looking after my girl.

Last February, my ferret Ivan started acting lethargic and I was able to take him in quickly to see Dr. Rafael. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with cancer, and Dr. Rafael was very supportive and went over treatment options with myself and my husband. Just a month later, we brought our sweet Ivan back to Dr. Rafael to euthanize him, and again, in such an extremely stressful time, the staff was able to comfort myself and my husband with the loss of our baby, and even sent us a sympathy card in the mail.

Just recently, Dr. Rafael performed surgery on my Leopard Gecko Mango to remove a sperm plug that was clogged in his vent, which was also very stressful for our family! Once again, Dr. Rafael and his staff were very thorough and kind in not only removing the plug with no issues, but calling me and updating me during the procedure to let me know how he was doing and how everything was progressing. Dr. Rafael also sent us home with antibiotic shots and educated me on how and when to deliver those injections, making sure I felt confident in what I was doing before he sent us home.

I have only used Portland Veterinary Hospital for my exotic pets, but am really considering moving my dogs and cats to the facility as well.
