I brought my son's car to Rick's Car Care Center on Irving Blvd, because it was overheating. It's a 2004 Subaru WRX. I was told that the thermostat was bad, so I approved to replace it. Then I was told that the head gasket was blown. And rather than fixing it, they suggested that they replace the whole motor. I figured that they knew what they were talking about, so I agreed to pay over $8000 for an engine replacement. Lucky for me, someone was incompetent enough, that they didn't get the correct engine to do the replacement. I was told that the wrong engine came in twice. So after this car was sitting in their lot for more than 4 months, I told them to replace the thermostat, put it back together, and I'll pick it up. This morning, I paid $563.52 for a new thermostat, cooling system diagnostics, and a radiator fluid service. As I wait for my keys, I was told that they would rather I towed the car, because it would only drive "one to two blocks" before the temperature gauge would "redline". Then..... I needed a jump, because the battery no longer had enough energy to start the car. I live a mile away, and had no issues driving it home. I drive it another mile and got it to overheat, but not consistently. Later that day, I take a better look at the car..... No oil leaks on the ground, no water in the oil, no noises from the engine, NO SIGNS THAT THERE'S A BLOWN HEAD GASKET!!! What I did find, was that the radiator was 1-1/2 quarts low of coolant. I know that these cars are prone to have a few issues..... I get it... But at least troubleshoot the car! Some lazy mechanic made assumptions that were going to cost me $8K for nothing. And then, couldn't do a simple job, like correctly filling up the radiator.

I was having difficulty with my sons car. They could have taken as half the other shops would. They looked over the car and didn’t charge me for unnecessary work. This is my new shop from now on. ?

*DONT say yes to them doing the work before looking around for better pricing!* Staff is nice and i really enjoyed that they have cold drinks and coffee waiting for you if you choose to grab one. Some things i didnt like were the price and having to pay $50 for a suspension check. For replacement of the brake pads and rotors plus drive axle came out to be $1300+ but i was able to get it done for $700+ elsewhere here in irving and also found that rotor replacement wasnt necessary just a resurface. Also they dont allow outside parts because they cant put a warranty on it and want to make sure its the right part per the man up front. As a potential paying customer i dont care about the warranty and i can make sure that the part is right myself so long as you tell me which one i need. I think its just another way to get more money out of the customer honestly. They seem like they do good work but just too pricey and i was never told i could just resurface my rotors vs replacing.

This place is expensive. I feel I was taken advantage of as a woman. I was quoted 900$ for replace a fuel pump. I Quickly took my vehicle to a different place and was charged $180. Thanks to the other place my car is back on the road. good luck

Went here to get an inspection for my truck. The service was great and finished pretty quickly. I went back to get my wife's car done. There was an older white gentleman at the front desk, and he was rude. He stated we needed to have TX insurance to get an inspection. I informed him I was there earlier and got my truck inspected. I didn't have TX insurance because I just moved to TX, but I had insurance. He said that didn't matter, and I had to have TX insurance. It was weird how rude he was being, seeing that I had just gotten my truck inspected that morning. Went around the corner and got an inspection for cheaper and faster. I guess our skin tone wasn't to his liking!!
