I came to this place very overwhelmed while battling a very rare aggressive breast cancer at Md. Anderson . I thought it would be a peaceful place for recovery needs but instead I was getting dirty looks from day one. My cancer diagnosed is inflammatory breast cancer and often comes with typically a short life expectancy. I came with my fiancé /caretaker , who had major brain surgery and had to learn to walk and talk again. He had proposed to me and weeks later I got the gloomy cancer news. Surprisingly he stuck by me against all odds. But needless to say , our dreams changed dramatically and he became my caretaker and it was like the blind leading the blind. We had no family helping sadly because he lost his mom at 12 yrs old to cancer and never knew his dad. He grew up in foster care and my family story is similar. So we did our best against all odds with little outside support. I told Ballard house about my caretakers severe head injury/ disability , yet they used it against us and kicked me out . I couldn’t believe how rude this staff lady was making me feel unwanted and constantly…… literally since the first day there. It really stressed me out and I did everything to avoid her too. Shockingly, with no time to figure out where to go so sick after being viciously thrown out, my health worsened. They even used my caretakers one time medical emergency while there as a excuse to kick us out. I called an ambulance and the same rude lady said leave before it gets here! So we went to the Er with a friend taking us.Nobody was compassionate or understanding about our disabilities. It was just you need to leave with no compassion at all. I have memory issues now from a serious fall on my face and head, but I’m looking at my notes about my experience at this horrible place. I kept a journal writing down all the mistreatment at Ballard House plus have witnesses. So my caretaker left very hurt and rightfully angry and I get a call to clean my room very well while very sick. I did and it took me hours to pack up and clean. No cares at all, that I was very dizzy and hadn’t slept over the very stressful ordeal. This place was a nightmare that treated me inhumanly and cruelly. Nothing I said mattered or how sick I was. Witnesses called the Ballard house and complained but never did I get an apology. Today, I get a call from the executive who wouldn’t let me tell my side of things and literally hung up on me while I was trying. I even slept in my car a few days after they threw me out like some diseased dog. I am a strong Christian, went to church every Sunday and still do. I don’t drink unless a very special occasion or do anything to be treated like some unwanted low life . My friends complained to seeing all the suffering they caused. I had several anxiety attacks not knowing where to live with no notice to figure it out. I ended up in the emergency room multiple times over their actions. All the executive said , is I got their side of things and that’s enough! I was a manager for a few big high end department stores and we had a saying the customer is always right. Well even if untrue you should at least listen to their complaints. This place acted retaliatory and discriminatory as well. My witnesses agree. While there I kept to myself but was always nice to everyone. I even made friends there. It truly was a horrific experience. I thought I get an apology and explanation for their inhumane treatment but instead I was hung up on. Since I left , I almost died of cancer while battling COVID. I also had a life threatening fall. I use a electric wheelchair over the injuries to be treated like this. I deserve better. I would never stay here after the way the executive talked to me today!

First time here, I visited for a Boy Scouts community service activities. The backyard is beautiful. This center provides apartments for patients who are going to have surgery and don't have a place to stay.

This wonderful place is such a blessing to us cancer patients. It's a safe place to rest, for free. You can just feel the love as soon as you walk in the door. The sweet lady helped me get checked in and went over and beyond to help me get my bags from my car to the room because I'm on crutches. When she found out my story, she came back up to my room with food goodies, a brand new blanket, and gift cards to help me get back on my feet. God bless every volunteer here and all the patients who are battling this awful disease. ?

They are friendly and make sure the building is kept clean. Food is provided daily and they have 2 large kitchens. Being in the Houston area there is large amounts of traffic. It's also very difficult to get into because of people needing a place to stay. We do appreciate their generosity.
