I went to this salon in January 2024 for the first time. My visit went well so I thought I would try for another appointment. I tried to schedule another appointment with the stylist via text (like I was told to) numerous times without a return text or call back. Okay, so I tried calling the salon directly, but no one answers, or returns your voice mail either. So, one more try with the Yelp app. I scheduled one for a Saturday, but then get a confirmation for a Wednesday afternoon....how did that happen?? Maybe this business is closed, idk, but that's not a way to do business, nor is it a good way to show customer service.

I went in for my first time here to see Mary on 11/30. Let me start with, I did hair for 14 years and got out a while back, but I am still always so nervous when getting a haircut. I have tried a couple other places here in Kyle, and I just was not comfortable during my visit, just either not too friendly stylists, the feeling of them rushing through it then charging an arm and leg and it would NOT be worth the price, etc. I am not one to ever complain or anything so I just pay it and go. Haven't necessarily had a horrible cut, just not a great experience to where I wanted to go back. So I made my appt here at Out of the Blue Salon, after reading good reviews online, and I wanted a "Sexy stacked bob cut". From the start of walking in the door, Mary was busy with a client, but she greeted me, and asked if I wanted to sit in the chair next to them and just visit while she finished up. They were talking and including me in the conversation, just laughing and having a good time. She finished up, then got me in her chair, looked at my pics and talked about what I wanted. I got great shampoo, then the conversation just flowed from there while she was cutting my hair. It took me back to some of the awesome stylists I worked with over the years, and I felt so at ease and comfortable. It did not feel like an uppity, snooty place, (Like the others) but it was clean and cute inside. We literally talked and laughed the whole time she was cutting. I also told her how I always say to go longer because I am scared, but I always end up going back to get it shorter. She reassured me that if I had any issue with anything or wanted it to be shorter, to not hesitate to come back in and she would take care of it, no problem. I left there paying the best price for a haircut that I have paid in a long time, and it is the best cut I have had in a long time as well. I left and immediately called my husband to tell him I was on my way home, and that I had found my new stylist. I will DEFINITELY be returning to Mary for my cuts. I may even stop having my husband help me with my coloring at home and come to her for that too, lol. If you have any doubts about trying a place, look no further. Also, the salon is ran by her and her mom, and they have been doing hair over 25 years. Thank you Mary, for an awesome experience!!!

Literally a one on one appointment, no fuss, no hassle...right to work on the Brows and I love the results....Thank you Lauren. P.S., of course I'm not stopping with the Brows...see you next week.

I went to Mary for a blow out. She was punctual, professional and approachable. She has a good attitude and handled my hair great (I am tender headed). I will definitely come back for more services!

I made an appointment at Out of the Blue Salon after reading clients comments. Mary gave me a haircut on Tuesday and I got scalped. The only hair I have left is on top of my head looking like a mohawk. I have a 1 inch bold spot over the top of my left ear. It will take me month for my hair to grow back. What a disappointment. Finding a good hair stylist can be a chore as there are so many fast-food equivalents out there. I mean sure they can cut hair, but are they masters of the smaller techniques? Hair is one of the most important visual cues we have to inaudibly announce who we are, a sort of set of nonverbal cliff notes, if those are still around. As for finding a good one, I've been through three and after a butcher job and a store closing I've found someone I entrust my furry noggin to and who never fails to go above and beyond. Out of the Blue Salon in Kyle and specifically Mary are the muses of my scalp. The store front is close to the railroad tracks near mainstreet Kyle and in a relatively safe part of town. Walking in, the place is always clean and with a jovial atmosphere. The music ranges from.... "dude, what is that" to "sweet Pink Floyd." The décor is simple yet with a local art flair, demonstrating that these ladies are not only good at their craft but they're real artists at heart. That's important b/c true, soulful artists take pride in their craft and aren't pushing people in and out like the aforementioned fast-food mentality. Mary is a very gifted stylist, exceptional at taking a picture and replicating in real life. As the website indicates they have their number on there to contact them. Mary generally takes a day to get back to me and we have things lined up within two days. Sitting in her chair she's very caring and detail oriented, making sure every nook and cranny is addressed. She's not the fastest but above average and I believe that has more to do with my incessant jabbering and making jokes than her skill. As for the cuts, they're always on the money and when she adds highlights or dyes my hair it's perfect. We even have an ongoing joke when I got my hair colored from somewhere else it wasn't blonde but... we'll that's between us. Finally, she's somewhat of a throwback to old school barber shops. Able to hold an engaging conversation which passes the time with a smile. I can't speak upon all the services provided here but from my experiences I'm extremely satisfied. The place is safe, the prices are fair and the staff is friendly. At Out of the Blue Salon you're not only having your hair styled, but you're making a friend and enjoying the visit. I highly recommend this spot for all of your hair needs.

I posted a screen shot of my review from yelp, I did not want to re type it all. I also added a pic of what I wanted, and showed her at the consult vs what I actually got. Very unprofessional, my hair is fried and I have to spend more money getting it fixed now.

Mary started cutting my hair about 10 years ago and I genuinely credit her with saving and reviving my long blonde hair. She also cuts my boyfriends hair now and he always says she gives him the best cut (I agree)

Mary is literally the best hairdresser that I have ever encountered and I’m picky!! She always makes me feel so beautiful when I leave, she also is easy to talk to while she’s doing it, my best friend who’s also a hairdresser referred me to her so I knew she’s be good but had no idea how good. She has become a really good friend in the process of doing my hair and I will NEVER go anywhere else!!
