Contracted American Van Lines for a 1100 mile move. Was told we would have packers on the 9/12 and our coordinator would call the day before. At 5 pm the day before I called them to see what was going on and was informed that they would be here on 9/14. I have to be out of my house by 9/14. I’ve called another moving company because this whole deal seems like a scam. I will probably have a fight to get my $7k deposit back but will deal with that later. Total scam operation. Save yourself the headaches and go with a reputable companyUpdate. Movers showed up with a U-Haul and 3 people to pack and load. 3000 sq ft, 4 bedroom house. Not a single person can be identified as an American Van Lines employee. Appears someone cruised Home Depot and hired day labor. Movers have said it’s not going to fit. Not feeling good about this.Update to update. Showed up on day 2 of a move I was told would be completed in 1 day @ 2pm. It’s 9 pm and I just got into with the driver when he bent the mower deck of my zero turn. And for kickers, they brought the same uhaul and am told I have to leave items behindI could have done better grabbing some illegals at Home Depot

This was the worst moving experience imaginable. The quote was a very easy process and they were happy to accept the first charge. But then things became challenging. First, the person assigned to my move never answered the phone. Every time I called, a new person picked up and we started from scratch. I wasn't called with my pick up window. I had to call. The pack up was fine. But then things went from bad to worse. Thy put my stuff in storage and then missed the delivery window by over a week. Every time I called it took 2 days for answer to a question. When delivery was finally scheduled the driver was 2.5 hours late, arriving at 8:40PM. It took 2 hours to get the credit card charged and then they started delivering my broken and mishandled valuables. Terrible company, will never use again and will think critically before using any moving company in the future.

Save yourself the stress and go with another company. These people called me 3 days before our scheduled pickup date and said they’re canceling our pickup because of “mechanical issues” with the truck that was supposed to pick us up. They left us without a moving truck and I have a job I need to start and a lease expiring in my current location. The absolute worse moving company!!!!

This company is a scam and should be shut down. Once they got our money up front, we could no longer get in touch with them. Mr. Robert Hines is a liar and a con artist. American van lines used different movers to move our furniture, non of which were American van line movers. They charged 170 to move dryer and washing machine and tore up my dryer. They broke my beautiful Ethan Allen footboard that I waited a year to be handmade of solid maple. Three of my beautiful lamps broken in pieces. Multiple boxes of precious items torn up. My husband is a disabled veteran and they told us they would deliver in 7 to 10 days and it was two weeks of us sleeping on the floor. We called 20 times and no one would return our calls. This wasn't just furniture they ruined, they had our whole life. Please don't give these people money as they then outsource to companies that just throw your precious items in a box. If you use this company, you will be scammed for thousands of dollars. Once they get your furniture, they won't tell you where it is and you have to wait. Then when they load it you have to pay more then when they unload it you have to pay more or they won't give you your precious items. Senior citizens DO NOT USE THESE SCAMMERS.

They quoted a job and couldn't fulfill what they promised and demanded and extra 4k to finish the job. They were lazy and unprofessional and dismissive. Will not ever use again. Can't believe how horrible of an experience this has been

The thought of moving 700 miles with a3 bedroom home and a garage full of boxes and a golf cart , was very overwhelming. I knew I couldn’t do it myself so I started looking for movers . I spoke with Kyle Hernandez with American van lines and was able to lock in a quote and still think about it for a few days . I chose American van lines and I’m so glad I did . My move was a few months away but they kept in touch with me the whole time . The movers were led by Mr Johnny . He and both his teams were amazing . Very professional and nice guys . I’m a single mom and making this move was huge . Kyle and everyone involved in my move did a great job . It really took a significant amount of stress off me knowing things were taken care of. I had very few things damaged . They put everything where I asked them to . They worked really hard and did a great job .

They lack communication amongst the subcontractors they solicit business from which to do additional deliveries which causes stress upon the customer. They fail to have adequate dispatch service for after hours in case of emergency such has " No shows", etc. This has been the worse experience in moving ever and still have not received all property.

Pros - the actual movers were good. they got in contact with me in advance then remained in contact throughout the move. I was suspect about the items they disassembled and even concerned that they may leave my items on the truck at delivery but they assured me it would all be re-assembled and in place at delivery, which brings me to their failure...Cons - their sales tactics and estimation process are shady. They underestimated significantly, I even called them back to adjust, they assured me they had accounted properly. They had not. They said that if my goods exceeded the estimate it would show up when weighed and they would adjust. However, they only had a portion of the truck available, nearly half of my goods didn't make it on the truck. The sales rep committed that they would move my goods from Phx to Tx to a storage then when ready i could call back and schedule (with additional fee) to move the items from storage to my home. I just attempted to do this and they told me they don't do that. I would not have booked with them if they had been honest. I guess that's why they aren't. BEWARE - they are shady and not always completely honest. Now my items are all in storage, disassembled by them and they wont complete the move as they committed. Their sales staff are clearly promising anything for a sale. This will catch up with them, they won't remain as highly rated as they were when i did my research if they provide this sort of 'service'.

I used American Van lines a year back for my Dallas to Austin move. This was the worst moving experience I had in my life. I got a binding quote based on another movers quote along with their estimation. Team was very sweet and gave me good discounts to lock me in. The problem started when the loaders and driver showed up to my door. The loader was clear that he cannot do it as it more than he thought. He was very rude and drunk. I took up the issue with the customer service and offered to pay anything more than mentioned in the estimation list. He said it will be double and started the work 3 hrs after he first came. Upon finishing, he had 2 to 3 extra cartons than in the estimation.

I worked with Brian McGuire for my move, and everything was smooth. In the past I have had movers lie and steal and break things, but Brian swore this would not happen with American Van Lines, and he did not lie! Everything was moved, and even stored for 3 nights, and made it to my house in perfect shape. The movers were professional and kind. All in all a great experience and restored my faith in movers.

The estimator and customer service rep handling my move were excellent. Very responsive and thorough. The movers did a great job handling my belongings, however, they spent a lot of time arguing with each other and the guy in charge felt my hallways were too long and decided he would remain downstairs at the truck. Even with 3 guys and a reserved elevator, this resulted in a longer move than anticipated and I had to pay for an additional hour that I felt was unnecessary. All of my belongings prior to the movers arriving were packed, stacked in the first room of the apartment (near the door), and ready to be moved. Nothing needed to be taken apart or put back together and only half of the items in the apartment were being moved. I did have a number of items that required wrapping and the guy handling that part of the move did an excellent job of that. The third guy, as did a great job by trying to speedily bring my items from the apartment to the truck. The disorganization came from the guy in charge, who complained but didn't help out much. Overall, they handled my items with care as nothing was damaged during the move. I would recommend American Van Lines with caution... They are a little more expensive than other companies however, they did offer to match a rate. The movers are not the most organized, so as a customer you may want to compensate for that by anticipating how you can keep your items organized (i.e. labeling boxes, stacking like boxes together, etc.). Even though you are hiring movers, get friends to assist in expediting the process. They don't have to move things, just help to move it along especially if you live in a high rise building and need to use the elevator for the move.
