Really did not want to write a review, but I would like to share my experience at this point. I went this past Saturday to get a balayage copper hair color done. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and he got to work. He was a nice guy and I felt comfortable throughout the whole session. The only thing is that when he was done I noticed my hair looked more red than copper. The lighting was mostly coming in from outside so it was not so apparent there. I decided Id give it a chance and thought Id warm up to the color. He suggested I used a shampoo that would bring the copper color out. I paid and left. When I got home though I was pretty shocked. My hair was BRIGHT red. The color was not as intense at the salon but under different lighting it was obvious the color was no where near the copper tone I had asked for. The back was not as intensely red, but the front and bottom half was.. i went to Ulta in hopes that shampoo would tone down the red but they did not carry the color he had recommended and it would have taken a whole week to arrive if I ordered it. A stylist at Ulta decided to take me in last minute and tested my hair in different parts to see what color would mask the red. I ended up with a dark burgundy red tone and basically my hair is back to just one shade. On top of that she also showed me blonde areas where the red dye hadnt been distributed correctly, he hadnt done a good job with that either. I contacted him and he insisted he did the job I asked for and sent me photos he took at the salon. In all honesty those photos do not look bad but the front and bottom half were completely different. Regardless, it was not what I wanted. It just looked like I had gotten bright red balayage done. I wanted a refund or partial refund but his only offer was that I set up an appointment so he could correct it. I would not go back or trust him to do my hair again so Im passing on the offer. Im upset and really would not recommend him to anyone. The photos do not lie. These are the photos of what I wanted, what I got, and his salon glamour shot compared to the front and bottom half I actually had.

I have been a loyal customer for several years now. I absolutely love the work they do here whether it's highlights, balayage, color, or cuts. I've gotten to the level of trust with Danny where I tell him what I'm picturing, and let his imagination run wild. I've never been let down. As a teacher, coach, student plus a little family, I find my time to be scarce, and they always find a way to work with me. I appreciate that very much. Looking forward to many more years with them!

This place is okay, i really thought this was gonna be my "it" place but i was sadly wrong. I asked for a balayage with light brown tones when she finished you couldn't even tell at all it did not look like a balayage. She teased my hair so much it was crazy when she was done washing my hair the knots were so bad it sounded horrible when she was trying to brush it out. The knots she couldn't get the brush out with she'd use her hands and just rip them apart. In my mind i was like you're a hairstylist you of all people should know to never just yank them out like that.I was gonna give this place 4 stars cuz the place wasn't even open when my mom and I got there. My appointment was at 11:30 the place opens at 10 we decided to get there about 5 minutes before and to our surprise the place wasn't even open no one was in there! It was crazy how are you going to have a 11:30 appointment and not have anything ready I gave this place 3 stars because one the place was closed nothing was ready, two she treated my hair so roughly with no care at all when trying to get the knots out, and three I showed her a picture of exactly what i wanted and did not get nothing close to that! I'm sorry but i really wanted this place to be my "it" place because of the good reviews it has but my experience was not good sadly:(

Thank you so much. I have been so scared to try a new place but after having my regular stylist cancelling on me frequently and always running late I decided to try a new place.Very punctual and took his time. I will definitely be back. Color was on point. Listened to what l wanted. Haircut great, and my hair looks very healthy. I will definitely be back.

My wife and I are not originally from Laredo. My wife is from San Antonio and I am from the Detroit Metro Area. Since living here, one of the most difficult things I've found is finding service providers that take and keep appointments as well as do great work; Shades does ALL of those things. My wife recently moved to Laredo. One of her concerns was finding someone to shape and color her hair. I asked a female co-worker, whose hair is styled and colored in a way that is very natural and flattering, who she would recommend to do the same for my wife. Without hesitation, she told me the only place she would recommend is Danny and his crew at Shades. We found Shades on YELP, which was a breath of fresh air because many businesses in this city are resistant to using social media that provides complete and up to date information. My wife loved what she saw in the photos and booked an appointment that day using the appointment link on the Yelp page. She arrived at her appointment with Ivy and discussed with her what she wanted to do. Ivy advised my wife that what my wife wanted would be something that would require her to have her hair done every other week. My wife elected to go with something that wouldn't be as high maintence. With that small gesture of professionalism and knowledge, she earned so much respect from my wife. On top of that, Ivy did outstanding work. My wife was thrilled with the high quality cut and natural tones Ivy chose for her hair. I've never heard my wife speak so highly of a stylist before. Ivy will have a client for as long as we are here. As for myself, I'm a guy who wants more than just a fade, poorly executed undercut, or style du jour. I like a more traditional businessman's hair cut, with it tight on the sides and some length on top to be swept back. I've bounced between a couple men's barbers who have either struggled with availability or simply left he city for other opportunities. So finding someone who is available and consistently does a great job is difficult. Seeing how my wife's hair turned out and listening to her input, I made an appointment and got my hair cut by Danny. I walked out looking well quaffed but not looking like I just got my hair cut. My cut was very clean and natural, and I was out in under 30 minutes. My hair lays great and with a little water and product, it's exactly what I was looking for. The price on a men's cut might be slightly higher than some guys are used to, but you get what you pay for. If you want a professional men's cut, I cannot recommend Danny enough. After four years in Laredo I have found my go-to hair place. I highly recommend!
