Excellent chicken, mashed potatoes and fried okra. My wife and I made the drive to Leakey recently on one of the most scenic roads in Texas - Hwy 377 from Medina to Leakey. Had lunch at Chicken Earls and these ladies know how to fry chicken. My only suggestion is to call about 30 minutes before you get there. These folks do everything by hand when you order and we waited 45 minutes or so for our food. Where else can you find a German Shepherd and a doe living in perfect harmony?

On our annual trip to float the Frio, I was looking for something we hadn't tried before. Read the reviews and saw they were only open 2 days a week and set our calendar to call when they opened. Couldn't get through but we were staying nearby so I just drove over and checked it out as soon as they opened. There was already a small line and this place is the definition of hole in the wall... two ramshackle shacks next to a house right on the highway. Super rustic cute decor with picnic tables in front and an even bigger shaded area in back that may or may not be open to diners... sort of like an outdoor barn picnic. Wild and domesticated mammals and fowl wander the property and there is not much of a parking lot, but the service was friendly and I was behind someone who'd ordered 40+ pieces! I asked about ordering ahead, and was assured they would hold some chicken for me. We found a swimming hole since the Frio was so dry and low that it wasn't floatable... finished early and were happy to find that we could bump up our pickup time. Took about 25 mins but the chicken was hot, fresh, crispy and delicious. It was seasoned nicely and tasted like grandma's fired chicken. The potato salad and green beans were good accompaniments. Glad we tried it and enjoyed it but wouldn't go far out of our way or stay an extra day or anything. It was so stinking hot, we took it back to our air conditioned home & decided this would be a great place to pull up to in the fall or spring--sit back and enjoy the scenery.

most delicious, scrumptious, delectable chicken that has ever touched my taste buds. Highly recommend. Unfortunately it's closed for the current season, but I'll definitely be returning when it's up and running again

Wasn't sure if we should try this place out or not. Glad we did. It looks like a shack on the outside with all sorts of tchotchkes. It's only open Tuesday and Friday-at least for now. There are only benches for sitting outside. No inside seating. There is a large tree providing shade so no matter. Order at the little window and they bring the food to you. Drinks are sodas or tea. Ice is in the cooler right outside the ordering window. The staff was very polite and friendly. The fried chicken. Wow. One of the best we've ever had. That's including fancy restaurant chicken vs. popular fast food chains. This is up there with the best. And cheap too. They also have fried gizzards and fried liver among other fried delectables. Good portions too and they tasted delish. We would've returned for another meal or more if they were open more days. Def recommend anyone passing through Leakey, TX.

Good Eat'nWant a break from the Frio River and/or camping from Garner State Park? A short trip to Leakey, Tx is a charm. After perusing through Bear Market, the antique stores, nursery garden full of metals, fill your belly with Chickin’ Earl’s. This place has the most flavorful, moistest, and perfectly seasoned fried chicken breast and fried chicken livers you’ll ever put in your mouth; and, with a little added salt, the red beans and coleslaw is quite tasty too. Hear the catfish is good too! Bump the ratings up at this place. You won’t regret it. Only Open Tuesdays and Fridays!

Delicious chicken...just a little shack on the side of the road in Leakey, Texas. If you're ever in the area...you have to call ahead to place your order. You have to arrive no later than 1:30 p.m. or your order will go to someone else. It is worth driving into Leakey for the chicken & getting to take pictures with their sweet deer/doe. She wonders around & visits with everyone. ❤❤

Sometimes the unexpected things are the best I was watching Texas Country Reporter and saw Chicken Earls several years back. He worked on motors and chainsaws but on Tuesday he cooks chicken sounds sketchy right. Well we went to eat there and this sweet deer named Biscuit just sits and enjoys all the love and attention you will give her. Her friend the dogs name is gravy and the bunny is named butter. Earl has passed away since the show but his wife is super sweet and friendly and the chicken was as good as they said it was
