While staying in the Austin area we drove out to Lockhart to try the most original and oldest of TX BBQ joints, The Original Black’s BBQ. It’s not a long drive, mostly because the speed limit is 85MPH getting here (which is awesome!). The town is small and the street this restaurant is on resembles an old western town. The line was decent, didn’t take long to get up to place our order (but a bus pulled up as we were leaving and I’m sure that line was long and slow!). You order sides first and then proteins. The staff was friendly and helpful. Their sides are very basic… whether mac & cheese, cole slaw or green beans, none of it looked “doctored up” nor interesting and the couple of items we did get from their assortment of sides were basic. Regarding proteins, we opted for brisket and port ribs. The port ribs were good. The brisket had a nice smoke, but was very dry and needed a lot of BBQ sauce to make it edible. Flavor was OK, but honestly, I make better brisket on my Big Green Egg. Overall, we can say we went.

Black's BBQ always appears on the lists of great BBQ in the US so we had to give it a try. We shared a brisket plate. The meat was nice and juicy while it was being carve yet tasted dry once we sat down to eat. It was ok, we'd give them another shot to see if that was just a bad day.

Visiting the country of Texas it was an experience to be at this BBQ. And, like so many others, it definitely was the best BBQ that I've had. Not overly spiced with sauce and the brisket just melted away. Sides were great.

If you want authentic Texas Style BBQ- this is the place! Smoked to perfection, the Brisket and ribs just melt in your mouth. They have all the side dishes you’d expect and even the desserts were very good. We had the pecan pie and banana pudding, Which were a nice ending to our meal. Service is cafeteria style and ver6 efficiently run. The decor is old style Texas and lots of tables available. Good Stuff!

Blacks is one the best BBQ restaurants in the Country. The meats are smoked to perfection and the sausage is fabulous.

Absolutely Delicious! I got their lean brisket, chicken, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, black eye peas and the Mac n cheese for the family. At every bite I stunned by flavor. I will definitely be retuning!

Disappointed. 4 little pieces of brisket that I could barely cut. Was given just a fork and had to go back and ask for a knife, could still barely cut it. $16 in the garbage can. ?

After hearing about Black's for decades. I finally made the trip to try it out. The food was very good. However, I think my expectations were more like " This is .. Out of this world BBQ". The chicken and sausage had plenty of smoke for the tastebuds. But, the ribs and brisket were not as distinct in smokey goodness. All in all the meats had nice flavor and were tender. I just expected a "blow your mind" experience, when buying lunch for 4 with 1 beer was $125.00

Visited Texas for BBQ and to compare: Franklin's VS. Black's. I have a clear winner! Both were just mouth watering BBQ, but Black's just have that extra.... Extra.... Je ne sais quio. Yup that's it. Love the restaurant vibe.. throwback and a little touch of modern. And there is no line people! I mean..... what a waste of time lining up at Franklin's-- and yet we love this bbq even more. I brought the Black's seasoning back to Seattle. And I'm kicking myself for buying just one! Anyways, thank you Black's for the experience. Can't wait to return.

This place is good. Their meat is well seasoned. I like the potato salad. And that corn bread..... because it was so heavy for a corn muffin, I thought it was game over n dryness in my mouth because they're left out under a heat lamp. Surprise surprise, that jalapeño corn muffin pack one 2 piece n left my jaw open. Lol. It was really surprisingly good. Will visit again.

Fun, historic bbq spot. The staff is super friendly. Meat: Beef Brisket - 4/5 Smoked Turkey Breast - 4/5 Barbecue Chicken - 4/5 Pork Spare Ribs - 4/5 Homemade Sausage - 4/5 Sides: Potato Salad - 4/5 Coleslaw - 4/5 Finally made the journey down to historic Lockhart for the Original Blacks. It did not disappoint. Brought a bunch of friends from out of town, and they loved it. The brisket is delicious. Great, tasty bark on the pieces. Moist, and juicy. Staff was great! Definitely will be back.

4 out of 5. Not what it used to be and good. Not a fan of the sausage. I'm not sure if it was old or if it was just a bad grind but very rough and granular. Brisket great smoke ring but didn't have a huge impact on our partys tast buds. Sides were average but good.

Was just looking for some good bbq and decided to stop and try Blacks Barbecue. I would eat there again and again it was so good the turkey was so moist and seasoned just right. I ordered the Smoked Turkey Breast sandwich. Didn't have to wait forever to eat nor get my food, staff was so nice and friendly. The place was very clean and well taken care of!! 10/10

We made a stop at Black's on our pilgrimage of Texas BBQ to compare it to all of the other famous spots. I can say confidently that Black's BBQ in Lockhart is the best BBQ in Texas, and the best Brisket in Texas BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS. Everything from the time you wait in line to the moment the brisket literally renders in your mouth is incredible. Since our initial trip years ago we make a detour here every chance we get. Having been to the major BBQ cities in the U.S. and trying the famous spots, I would say this isn't only my favorite Texas BBQ, but my favorite BBQ overall. Don't let any jokers tell you the other BBQ spots in Texas can compete, they don't know what's up!
