Black’s was a decent bbq place. The brisket was melt in your mouth and tender, at least in the fatty pieces. The pork ribs were ok, but not great, and the chicken quarter was also pretty good. They had one type of bbq sauce and free bread/onion/pickles on the side. There were hardly any people in there on a Thursday evening. I would not recommend the pecan cobbler, it looked good but was sickly sweet and the cobbler pieces weren’t good either.

I was expecting something amazing because of Black’s reputation. Honestly, it was just average. I can get BBQ as good or better at a dozen places around the Austin area. The sides were mediocre, especially the mashed potatoes. The really amazing thing about my meal at Black’s was the price: $74, not including the tip. I always tip, so my final bill wound up being almost $90 just for myself. At a barbecue joint. I had half a pound of brisket, two sides, a drink, and what really hiked the bill enormously: one beef rib. That rib weighed one and a half pounds, which included a huge bone, of course, and at $30 a pound, that was $45 right there. The staff wasn’t even a bit friendly. Not a single smile or pleasantry. I was nicer to them than they were to me. The place did have a nice old barbecue joint atmosphere, which I liked. Next time I’m in Lockhart I’ll try one of their many competitors.

I didn’t think it could be done, but they did it, the best bbq in Lockhart. Terry Black’s was incredible, we tried all the stops in town, but clearly I have found the King of Lockhart. The brisket, the sausage and lord the turkey. Not to mention, oh but I will, the banana pudding! Do yourself a favor and before you stop in town and just stop at Terry Black’s, you won’t be disappointed.

Came to this location last Friday as I were from out of town visiting for the race at COTA and when I asked many locals of a good Texas BBQ restaurant they informed me to go try Blacks BBQ. Said the location in Austin stays packed and will have a chance to get in and out better in Lockhart. I was highly disappointed in food. Granted we did come in late around closing time but the macaroni tasted like Kraft mac and cheese, the cream corn was not hot and tasteless, the brisket had a good taste but I had more fat than meat and the sausage was a little too greasy as if it had been sitting for a while. Lastly I tried the banana pudding and it was decent but just a little bit too sweet. For 41 bucks this was highly disappointing to say the least and maybe we got a bad batch of food due to coming in around closing time but first impressions are a lasting one and I were highly disappointed.
