I drive well out of my way for this place. There are other ranges that are easier and closer to get to but I choose this one. I love the be safe but we will let you do your thing feel about this place. As long as you do as you are told during the safety briefing, there is no reason you cant have a great time here.

overprice if you go, make sure you take your earplugs because if not, they're gonna sell you some foamy ones for two dollars that you're gonna throw away. if you shoot with an A.R. the sluts where you're going to shoot have a very low overhang so either you have to squat or lay on the the table or the ground totally uncomfortable. If you want to really experience outdoor shooting in away shooting should be check out Black Hawk.

It rained... So I shot the raindrops as they fell. Meet a bunch of cool Brits that rented some big toys. They had fun. I trained.... I sent 300 rounds down range. It's great.

It has clays, plinking, handgun and rifle ranges. Entry as of 11/2023 is $25 to use any and all ranges. So far every employee I've met here has been friendly and helpful, some of the customers are obnoxious in some ways that I don't know is completely fair to criticize them about (I don't know every bit of minutiae as it pertains to gun range etiquette), but I will anyway: why do some people with scoped out large caliber rifles insist on shooting on the lanes that are better suited to handguns? Beats me. I assumed it was just because they're shitty shots or they just are totally inconsiderate but I could be wrong. There may very well be a totally practical reason that I'm missing, but it's still a bit obnoxious. Employees are pretty hands-off for the most part, though there's always at least one patrolling the area. If you're a total novice this is probably not the place for you unless you have someone with you who will be up your ass about safety and etiquette. It's not what I would call "unsafe", but compared to an indoor range it's a bit more casual. They assume you know what the fuck you're doing is what I'm trying to say. No one is going to be up your ass about getting your shit together unless it's another patron, or unless you're doing something so egregiously stupid that it gets noticed by the employees. Don't be that fucking guy. Easy drive here, just off 183. As far as I know this is the only range with plinking in the area and it's close enough to downtown Lockhart to make a trip to Smitty's a No brainer.

Had a great time here visiting from Australia. Range is well set up for overseas visitors to come for a hassle free shoot, they get you up on the range shooting on your own very quickly. Its also very well priced for visitors, only $10 gun hire and whatever ammo you want to shoot. They've got a good selection of pistols and rifles available. If you're travelling around Austin this place is a must. Also close to Lockhart for BBQ lunch after your range activity ;). Thanks dudes, will catch you next time we're in Texas!

What a great shooting range. First of all they keep safety top priority. Employees are all very professional and knowledgeable! Very good selection of guns to rent. Have taken the CC license course here. Well worth the money. Haven’t been there since they paved the road to the range. But that’s a great improvement!I highly recommend this range. Make safety your priority while on the range!

You have lost a member!I have been a member for 2 years and have been visiting this range for 3, furthermore, I have never given any establishment a 1 star review until now. From the beginning, something felt off. everyone in the check-in building seemed on edge and there was an overall hostile feeling. I brushed that feeling aside after I got outside and onto the range.I got to range 1 (15-yard range) and began shooting, I was shooting for about 1 hour. After that 1 hour mark, I wanted to get some practice in with my AK. this is where the problems begin. I am not a novice when it comes to shooting, when I'm practicing with a rifle shooting it rapidly is a very important skill to have. this is one of the reasons I have been a member here for the past 2 years. historically there has been no issue with me shooting rapidly at a 15-yard target. In the past, I have had staff present while doing it and some have complimented me on both my speed and accuracy. on top of this, I put a fresh target up, and after the first magazine, I looked at it and counted all 30 rounds in an A zone sized group.before I got another mag loaded up a staff member walked up and started scolding me. he said that there is no way I could control that rifle and while rapid fire is allowed mag dumping is not. he said that if I do that again he will kick me off the property. he said I would ruin the frames and if I wanted to mag dump I needed to take the frames down and mag dump the berm. he also made sure we knew that at long range we had to wait 1 second between shots, this will be important for later. there are a series of problems here. first, he wasn't there while I was shooting, how does he know it's uncontrollable? why didn't he look down range at the target? It was a new target and you could see the group right in the middle, furthermore, it was a brand new frame, it had no holes around the wooden border when I got it and it had no holes when I returned it, it would not have been hard for him to see. he also acted like guns are impossible to control and was acting like I was going to shoot over the berm.I brushed this off and said OK because I didn't want to get into a conflict with this staff member who was already irate, after this, I headed to the 100-yard range and shot for about 30 minutes at some clays on the 100-yard berm. after shooting all of them I switched to a target, I also switched to a 9mm sbr. I did a total of 4 groups making sure to have 1 second in between shots, after the last group I got up and was about to call a seize fire when the same rso walked up and just goes off, this guy was shouting at me. and I remember what he said verbatim. he said "What do you not understand about what I told you earlier. 2 seconds between shots" he also threatened to kick me out a second time. at this point, I left. I wish I got that guy's name but unfortunately, I didn't.this guy makes up the rules as he goes, first it's 1 second then it's 2. I drive for 1 hour to get to this range, but after today I will not be renewing my membership, there are 2 indoor ranges within 20 minutes of my home that are less strict and way less hostile.I do want to note that over the last 3 years, I have had a lot of good interactions with the rso's, however, it only takes 1 bad experience to sour someone's impression. In the past I have recommended this range to many people, I have personally brought 10 different friends to this range, but that ends today. I will never drive for 1 hour to be harassed by a guy that makes up the rules as he goes.as a final note, I am providing a picture of my 4 groupings at the 100-yard range that were done with an "uncontrollable" rate of fire. it was a 9mm with a 9 in barrel shooting steel cased so not the greatest accuracy to start, but certainly not "uncontrollable" and certainly not shooting over the berm.

We had such a blast at Lone Star. The crew was there was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Came with a medium sized group and they accommodated us and made sure we were getting the best experience. Highly shooting the .50 cal. When we had a hard time getting an Uber back to Austin, the owner offered to drive us all the way back no questions asked. When I say they care about their customers, I mean it.Check this place out, you wont regret it!

Had a delightful experience at Lone Star, thanks to the friendly, knowledgable, and professional team at the range. There's a large selection of firearms to rent and we were patiently instructed in each one so we could handle them safely and confidently. Thank you for taking care of us and making our Texas road trip so memorable, Jake.

I recently visited Lone Star Gun Range and had an amazing experience! The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure that I was comfortable and safe throughout my visit. The range itself was well-maintained and had a great selection of firearms to choose from. The pricing was also very reasonable, especially considering the high quality of the range and staff. Overall, it was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend Lone Star Gun Range to anyone looking for a fun and safe shooting experience!

Amazing place! We were a group of inexperienced people, and Mike took the time to explain everything we needed to know with great humor. We had an excellent time and will definitely come back if we happen to pass by again. I strongly recommend it!

It's kinda far from my home (30 minutes/22 miles) and , in my opinion, well worth the drive. I have been there twice. The service is GREAT. The lady behind the counter has a great laugh and was helpful with all my questions. The gentlemen in the bay area assist me with every query I have posed to them in a comforting way (being a newbie, I feel kinda d*** about shooting). I will definitely visit them again (singing my favorite Cheap Trick songs) as I walk in. Well worth the investment of time and money is my recommendation to anyone seeking a place to shoot at things .
