I reserved a car with this Avis location, pre-registered prior to arrival which required me to add my driver's license, credit card, contact info, flight info, etc. Upon arrival they scanned my driver's license and the result was "Not Valid". There were 2 people, one of which was a manager. The agent cleaned the strip a couple of times, tried his, tried another customer's and mine still read Not Valid. Neither he nor the manager could explain why. The manager walked away and not sure why she didn't stay to help since she was the only one authorized to escalate this issue. The agent looked up the phone number for Arizona Department of Transportation for me to speak to someone. I was on hold for a bit and had them on speaker phone. We were told that there was no reason for my driver's license to not read Valid. The ADOT rep said I had a perfect record with no violations, tickets, suspensions or anything. The car rental agent did not have authority to override and the manager never appeared again. I can completely understand why a car rental company would require a driver in good standing but not sure why I was not able to rent a car. The agent told me he would cancel my reservation the next morning as I proceeded to go with Budget who came through for me. I'm a travel agent and will have Avis as an absolute last resort with all kinds of advisories and warnings should one of my clients have to use them.

I arrived 20 minutes early for pickup and pointed out I was a little early and would happily wait. They said: "no no, it's no problem" and gave me the keys/invoice. I happened to notice the invoice was almost double what was expected/booked...so I asked and he said: "that's because you are picking up early and so they charge you an extra day". I said no thanks, I'll wait 20 minutes as I said when I got here.At dropoff, there was nobody in the parking lot to receive or inspect the vehicle, so I parked in an Avis spot, locked the vehicle, made a detailed video of the exterior and glass condition and went inside to the rental counter with the key and my gas receipt. I told her I only drove a little around town and was only down a quarter tank but filled it up and offered to show my gas receipt, she said: "no no, you are good, no worries." I asked if she wanted to inspect the car with me, she also said no, that she was sure the car was fine (of course that doesn't make any sense...what company trusts their customers). I told her I didn't want any billing surprises but she assured me it was fine. So I gave her the key and left. As I'm about to go through airport security I get an email invoice from Avis with an extra 17 bucks on it. The invoice does NOT itemize fees...so I can't tell why the invoice is higher than expected. So I get out of line and go back to the rental counter and ask her. She looks it up and says I was charged "EZFuel" because I drove less than 75 miles and they don't trust their gas gauges. Apparently if you drive less than 75 miles they punish you by assuming you didn't fill up the tank and that their gas gauges are wrong (not sure why that would be my problem). The only way to avoid this fee is to show a gas receipt to prove you actually filled it up....which I had offered to show and she declined without warning me about possible extra fees.Long story short...these guys are terrible. If you rent from them, make sure you double check your invoice and pickup and dropoff against what you were expecting. Make sure to fuel up somewhere nearish to the airport and save your fuel receipt. And make your own detailed videos of the car before pickup and after dropoff. Include the interior as well and the surrounding to show it is in the Avis lot. This way if they try to scam you for extra fees or damage you have evidence for your credit card dispute.

Usually I have overall good experiences with avis but today at this location that was totally opposite. First off had an original reservation and when checking out for it the price didn't match my quoted price when making the reservation. So I asked about this but the lady couldn't explain or give me a breakdown of the huge price difference. So I canceled my reservation and made a new one plus I'm avis preferred so thought that would help a little but again the price didn't match my reservation quote and when she consulted her supervisor or whoever was trying to help they didn't help at all and just told me they couldn't give me the car. Good thing I'm an emerald club member with national next door to them so I just made a new reservation with them on the spot and was in and out in 5 minutes plus the price I was quoted on my reservation matched at check-out. So horrible customer service at this one for me.

I normally don't have an issue with Avis. But I will say this: if you don't know what is or what isn't accepted at each location, you'll be highly upset about it. Even more so if you've paid an Uber or Lyft to get there and then you have to take another Uber or Lyft to get to the other location. Once you finally reach the next location you have to go through red tape only for the manager to make a crazy mistake. Oh well, such as with life itself ??

AVIS came through when both Budget and Enterprise were unable to honor the reservation I made. I will never use either of those two companies again. Great customer service and easy checkout/checkin process. GO AVIS!

Do not use Avis at a Lubbock International, poor customer service, and overall they’re just trying to nickel and dime you. I would choose anybody other than Avis. I’ve been a long time customer of Avis, and this trip put it over the edge.

My flight was canceled so I had to rent a car for an 8 hour drive home. Unfortunately I trusted Avis and did not inspect the tires before leaving. Unfortunately I find out when it’s too late that the rear passenger tire is bald and has wires showing. I drove 8 hours in 100 degree weather to get home. I would never have forgiven myself had something horrible happened because of the incompetence of Avis. I reported it as soon as I turned the car in and they acted like it wasn’t a big deal and said they may give me a discount. SMH…I don’t want a discount. I want to be sure no one gets hurt because of someone’s laziness. I never heard from Avis nor did I receive an email survey like I have before.

Avis has been my go to for over a decade. They always come through with good clean, reliable vehicles. Service agents are always friendly and recognize me as a long good standing customer. Many times I left valuable items in the car and they kept them until I could get back.

The rental was fine, the car was ready, and the price was as expected. They "upgraded" us from an economy car to a sporty Camero convertible. Seems like we should have been excited but... It was over a hundred degrees outside, the luggage barely fit, and our fuel costs were almost double! Had we arrived before 10pm and if there were other cars in the lot, i would have asked for the original type car ordered.

Very poor service from beginning to end. Lubbock location charged for an SUV but provided a full-size car. Told us that tax-exemption and rate change would be handled at the drop off location. Kansas City location told us that it should have been completed at the Lubbock location. Customer service center told us they couldn’t calculate any additional fees for a rental extension and it would have to be determined at the drop off location. Ended up costing an additional $300 for a six hour extension.

I am extremely disappointed in my experience with Avis @ LBB. We returned the car the same day it was rented, but were charged late fee on invoice that it was returned the following day. Also were charged a fuel fee even though we had filled it up and brought the receipt as instructed. An additional $40 on top of a $115 rental fee for 8 hours of driving and less than 20 miles. Repeated calls to Avis' call center to rectify this matter have been useless. Never again will I use Avis.

Upon request for a day extension, Avis wanted to increase my day rate from $77 to $193. Agent said was due to high car volume. Went to Avis counter, and no agent, so exceeded my return time and changed extra. Agent said plenty of vehicles and this is a common complaint. Beware of Avis rip-off. Went to National and got an upgrade for less.

Staff was very helpful and pickup. I had to call customer service to modify my reservation and they made it very quick and easy.
